Pay: $41.60 to $75.27 per hour, depending on experience.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, flex time

Position Summary:
The Cloud Engineering Manager is responsible for setting the technical direction for Powell's Books’ cloud infrastructure development practices. This position supervises and functions as the team lead, mentor, and architect for the cloud development team. The Cloud Engineering Manager collaborates with Product Managers, business stakeholders, and operations team members to deliver reliable, instrumented, secure, and performant infrastructure platforms to engineering teams, and applications to our customers. The Cloud Engineering Manager manages the DevOps team and reports to the CIO.
Essential Functions:
- Manage and collaborate with the DevOps team to establish and practice healthy team norms.
- Ensure day-to-day work aligns with and enables the business strategy.
- Drive agile ways of working by incorporating continuous improvement practices into daily work.
- Coach software developers and cloud engineers in maintaining high standards for development and achieving their professional goals.
- Build a high-performing team in a remote work environment.
- Hire, train, mentor, and lead in order to build and sustain a team that can deliver a reliable, instrumented, and automated platform for business-critical applications.
- Conduct performance evaluations. Take appropriate action to address performance issues, up to and including discipline and discharge.
- Support delivery of the business strategy through outstanding planning and reporting .
- Help refine team backlog for user-centric stories based on input from multiple stakeholders .
- Create operational metrics that balance business needs with team feasibility. Engage with stakeholders to deliver market-driven software solutions.
- Partner with Product, Marketing, and other stakeholders to produce, communicate, and drive consensus of secure, compliant , performant architectures that employ modern patterns and methods.
- Proactively seek regular feedback from stakeholders to drive continuous improvement activities.
- Communicate and build relationships with a diversity of people and teams.
- Understand s how to integrate best practices—and when to throw the book out the window.
- Understand s how to get to the root cause of problems quickly.
- Analyze complex development tasks and breaks them into smaller deliverables.
- Use technology as a tool to delight customers, drive business outcomes, and improve lives.
- Ensure to cascade business strategy down to the team level.
- Prioritize software development activities to user needs.
- Prioritize measuring and automating software development as much as possible.
- Participate in on-call rotation to provide after-hours support for Powell’s Books mission-critical applications.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirement and Qualifications:
- Must have experience leading a team of developers and mentoring junior developers.
- Must have excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
- Must have BS/MS in computer science or equivalent work experience.
- Leadership skills necessary to hire, supervise, inspire, lead, and train others.
- Knowledge of IT and Security best practices and compliance (PCI).
- Must have the ability to work remotely and be available for periodic on-call rotation.
- Absolute ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Satisfactory results from criminal background check required.
- Love of books and reading.
- Physical requirements – Group D.
