Job Summary:
EMC’s IoT Solutions Business Unit, which is a start-up within the broader organization, is planning on launching a new and innovative life-safety IoT product. EMC is looking to build out an internal team to launch and support this product. A key component of the product ecosystem is the cloud platform which is being hosted by AWS.
The Staff Cloud Engineer (AWS) will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting an AWS cloud platform that has been developed by EMC to support the new IoT product. This role will also involve design and build responsibilities to support the product pre- and/or post-launch.
In this role, you will work closely with internal and external partners, and customers to ensure the cloud platform is operating reliably and in alignment with the goals for this product.
Essential Job Functions:
- Design, build and maintain AWS cloud platform, following best practices for platform builds, troubleshooting and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies.
- Collaborate with IoT Solutions, Information Technology and other stakeholders to provide guidance on cloud architecture, design and deployment best practices.
- Collaborate with IoT Solutions, Information Technology and other stakeholders to ensure smooth deployment, monitoring and management of the cloud platform and related services on AWS.
- Development and implement automated processes for provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and scaling of AWS resources.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to AWS services, including but not limited to EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, VPC, and IAM.
- Monitor and optimize the performance, availability and security of AWS resources and services.
- Implement and enforce security best practices, including data encryption, access controls and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Provide occasional support outside of normal business to provide timely resolution of critical incidents.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest AWS features, services and best practices, and provide recommendations as appropriate.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of documentation, standard operating procedures, and knowledge base articles.
Skills and Abilities:
- Experience in designing, building, troubleshooting, and maintaining AWS cloud environments.
- Solid understanding of AWS services, especially those related to IoT.
- Strong scripting skills using Python, Bash, or other scripting languages.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools.
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools.
- Knowledge of networking concepts, including routing, switching, load balancing and security.
- Understand security best practices and compliance requirements in AWS.
- Applicable AWS certifications such AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or DevOps Engineer.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or “STEM” majors.
Experience Required:
- Five+ years of computer science and/or programming experience.
Experience Preferred/Other Qualifications:
- Lighting, Electrical, and LED technical knowledge.
- Understanding of technology communication protocols such as LoRa, BLE etc.
