BROAD FUNCTION:
BHS Staff Educator will perform the functions of an educator, facilitator, change agent, leader, consultant and researcher in area of expertise. Staff Educator will participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of orientation programs and ongoing educational needs of BHS staff throughout the division
BHS Staff Educator will provide and/or arrange for facility wide orientation and training programs, in-service education, and other educational programs for the development of facility personnel.
Provides an on-going support to facility personnel to assure that they receive adequate orientation, and discuss with staff ongoing educational needs.
The BHS Staff Educator will be an active member of the Oswego Behavioral Health Leadership Team and will work with the team to assure patient-centered care is provided and promote positive patient outcomes by assuring staff has the education they need to be successful.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assess learner characteristics including learning styles and learning needs for program development.
2. Creates an effective learning environment, identifies learning needs of various roles in the BHS division.
3. Implements a variety of teaching strategies tailored to the learner’s characteristics learning needs, cultural perspectives, and outcome objectives.
4. Plans facility personnel programs that are culturally relevant and incorporate concepts of multicultural and multigenerational education.
5. Applies nursing and learning theoretical/conceptual foundations as a basis for developing nursing and facility personnel professional development programs.
6. Maintains visible clinical presence.
7. Adheres to regulatory body/agency standards.
8. Advocates for the nursing professional and facility personnel development programs that support the needs of the learner and the organization.
9. Demonstrates sensitivity to ethical, cultural, and spiritual inclusion.
10. Implements motivational strategies at individual, group, program, or organizational levels.
11. Uses outcome measurements and outcome evaluation methods.
12. Demonstrates knowledge of the research process, and promotes evidence based practice.
13. Uses organizational strategic plan and goals to determine educational priorities.
14. Plans and implements programs and projects using innovation and creativity.
15. Consistently uses planning methodologies when implementing, facilitating and/or evaluation various programs and projects.
16. Designs and implements evaluation plans for programs and projects.
17. Accepts personal responsibility for own professional development and fosters Critical thinking and problem solving amongst facility personnel.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Constant - standing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, lifting, pulling, pushing, turning Frequent - Occasional - Sitting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or education from an accredited school is preferred. Registration and current NYS license is required. Comprehensive knowledge of health care practices and techniques; familiarity with all patient equipment and products; and excellent interpersonal skills are needed; PC skills preferred. Current certification in CPR is needed. Completion of Pharmacology, IV Therapy Courses, and Telemetry within first year of employment.
- Must have a minimum of three years hospital experience, with one or more years in a charge or other supervisory capacity. Orientation to nursing management and supervision is required. Teaching experience preferred.
- Demonstrates proficiency in use of technology current knowledge of Meditech preferred.
- Possesses effective oral and written communication.
- Able to use effective interpersonal skills
