HJF is seeking a Clinical Psychologist to function as staff member for all categories of patients. Performs duties as a practitioner and consultant in psychiatry with emphasis on problems of all levels of complexity.


This position will be in support of the University Counseling Center at the Department of Family Medicine, School of Medicine in the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, MD.Through the University Counseling Center, the incumbent will tend to the mental health of the students, staff, and faculty across the university. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to the University Counseling Center. Functions in capacity as a member of the staff of the Outpatient Behavioral Health Service for all categories of patients. Performs duties as a practitioner and consultant in Behavioral Health with emphasis on problems of all levels of complexity.


Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Provide clinical and administrative supervision to clinical staff. Supervise Psychologists as well as any visiting psychologists. Providing staff expertise in psychology that is pertinent in a wide variety of circumstances to include management of patients with behavioral health disorders.
  • Examine, diagnose, treat, and follow outpatients with behavioral health problems of all complexities. Conduct thorough studies of presenting patients; evaluate laboratory and clinical findings, prescribe appropriate treatment or refer patient to appropriate specialty clinics.
  • Create and assess implementation of standard psychological assessments. May be responsible for development of standard operating procedures for psychological counseling and diagnosis. May be responsible for developing institute Quality Assurance Programs to ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Provides continuing follow-up for chronic outpatients with acute disorders and complications of these disorders.
  • Provides staff expertise in psychology that is pertinent in a wide variety of circumstances, to include management of patients with Behavioral Health disorders.
  • Examines and conducts thorough studies of presenting patients; evaluates laboratory and clinical findings, prescribing appropriate treatment or referring patient to appropriate specialty clinics.
  • Collaborates with physicians in other medical specialties on cases involving complicated and multi-faceted problems. Additionally, provides behavioral health support to special areas such as the medical and surgical services.
  • Follows through on all cases to ensure effectiveness of comprehensive behavioral health services. Provides continuing follow-up for chronic outpatients with acute disorders and complications of these disorders.
  • Provides Behavioral Health support to special areas, such as the Medical and Surgical services.
  • Supervise testing accommodation program and conduct outreach and psychoeducational workshops in areas of responsibility.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
NONESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  • Directs Quality Assurance studies in the areas of responsibility.
  • Conduct outreach and psychoeducational workshops in the areas of responsibility


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to diagnose and treat psychological problems of all complexities. Knowledge of CBT, CBT-I, exposure-based treatment for trauma, couples-counseling, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and psych testing. Child and adolescent training desirable.

Qualifications:

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Education and Experience

  • Doctoral degree required.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years’ experience in a psychiatry service required.
  • Experience with collaborative care models of care. Experience treating students/trainees desired. Prior Military or prior military provider experience a plus.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Psychology License (Independent Practice)
