Position Summary:

This is a clinical staff position for a Registered Nurse with the responsibility for handling patient messaging and consulting with physician/provider when appropriate. Message management may be completed via direct messaging, pool management and/or attached In Basket. ENTAA Care is a member of Johns Hopkins Regional Physicians LLC.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Responds to messages, lab results, prescription requests, referral requests, and medical supplies/test requests according to In Basket scope of practice for credentials.
• Acts as a liaison between the practice physicians/providers, staff and patients.
• Accepts direct calls from patients, retrieves messages from the clinical pool and directs them to the appropriate physician/provider, department or staff member.
• Gathers all necessary information from patients pertaining to their call, initiates in basket message and forwards to the appropriate physician/provider or department for follow-through. Follows up with patients according to physician/provider instructions or established practice protocols.
• Provides patient education and answers patients questions regarding procedures, testing and results according to practice protocols.
• Calls and/or faxes in prescriptions accurately.
• Documents all calls according to ENTAA Care’s standard procedures.
• Obtains authorizations for medications, radiology scans, sleep studies and other pre-authorizations as necessary. Communicates any authorization denials to patients on the same day.
• Communicates with physicians, staff and patients in a professional manner.
• Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

Education:

• Requires Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN).

Required Licensure, Certification, On-going Training:

• Possession of a current state registered nursing license (BSN).
• Current training and certification in basic life support (BLS) required.

Work Experience:

• Minimum of one (1) year experience in a clinical setting or physician office. ENT and/or Allergy experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to perform routine job duties with minimal supervision and direction.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with staff, physicians, patients, families and outside agencies in such a manner as to gain their confidence and secure their cooperation and respect.
• High level of patience, tolerance and tact in order to deal effectively with people and time pressures.
• Professional demeanor, attitude and appearance.
