Position Overview

This Child Support Agent II position, located within 1 of the 3 program units of Child Support (Enforcement, Establishment or Intergovernmental), is a journey level case management position that manages large caseloads providing mandated Child Support services. These services include location of case participants, administrative and judicial establishment of paternity and support orders, and administrative and judicial enforcement of child support orders. This position may also process the initiating or responding registration of a foreign support orders pursuant to federal and state time standards. Work is performed independently and is subject to review by a designated Child Support Lead Agent I/II and Child Support Supervisor I/II. Employees in these positions confer with Lead Agents and Supervisors on complex issues, policy problems, and novel situations.

Examples of Duties

  • Provide mandated child support services which include location of noncustodial parents, administrative and judicial establishment of paternity and support orders
  • Work involves gathering evidence, drafting legal orders, computation of the appropriate child support amount using NC Child Support Guidelines
  • Determining proper course of action and assisting the staff attorney with preparation for court as well as presenting cases with the staff attorney in the courtroom

Minimum Qualifications

Four-year degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, human resources, paralegal, accounting, or other closely related degree and 6 months of experience in areas of child support, social services eligibility, investigations, legal, or finance that provide the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work; or graduation from an accredited two-year college or technical school with a degree in business administration, human resources, paralegal, accounting, or other closely related degree and 2 ½ years of experience in areas of child support, social services eligibility, investigations, legal, or finance that provide the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work; or graduation from high school and 4 1/2 years of experience in areas of child support, social services eligibility, investigations, legal, or finance that provide the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary additional requirements:
Successful completion of Basic Math, Reading Comprehension, Spelling and Basic Word tests will be required. Candidates selected as qualified will be contacted via email by a Human Resource representative for testing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the Child Support Enforcement Program and Automated Case Tracking System (ACTS), related legal procedures, judicial operations, and office management practices and procedures.
  • Skill in interviewing, investigating, and analyzing case variables.
  • Ability to organize and summarize case information.
  • Ability to represent child support program in oral and written form.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret rules, regulations, and procedures.
