Job Summary and Qualifications

We are currently recruiting for a Child Life Specialist to join our team! As our Child Life Specialist, you will support and assists children and their families through the emotional and physical aspects of hospitalization. You will provide education, prepare and support children through difficult tests, procedures and sometimes-drastic changes that happen within their families due to chronic illness, treatment and recovery. What you will do in this role:

• You will work with ill or injured children, adolescents and their families to ease the anxiety and stress that comes with hospitalization.
• You will ease the trauma of hospitalization by talking and playing with patients and helping them relax.
• You will develop and evaluate treatment plans for children.
• You will help children and their families understand medical care, diagnosis and procedures.
• You will accompany children through medical procedures.
• You will assist in the maintenance of a safe and therapeutic patient care environment.
• You will maintain age-appropriate supply of therapeutic play materials (e.g., arts, crafts, games, books,) and evaluates the need for equipment and supplies.
• You will participate in rounding and evaluations as part of the interdisciplinary team and proactively respond to patient needs to improve patient outcomes and positively affect overall patient experience.

What qualifications you will need:

• Certified Child Life Specialist designation by Child Life Council is required for this full-time Child Life Specialist opportunity.
• Bachelor's Degree in Child Life Specialist Program or a related field with a major in Child Development, Child and Family Studies, Psychology, Early Childhood Education or similar field
• One-year previous experience as Child Life Specialist or completion of internship program in an acute care facility.
• Certified Child Life Specialist by Child Life Council
• Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, ability to follow verbal instructions, PC skills. Ability to adjust language and demeanor to the developmental and emotional state of a child. Is able to explain complex medical procedures and information to all ages.

This role requires you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and /or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).
