Position Purpose: The Office of Mission, Culture, and Strategy (OMCS) serves to strengthen Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton’s commitment to the work of the Society of the Sacred Heart by supporting the Director of Schools in the development and implementation of mission-related programs and the management of the School’s strategic planning initiatives.
Essential Duties:
- Provide oversight and direction for all OMCS programs with the goal of guaranteeing that SHS, Atherton realizes its commitment to provide a fully inclusive, Christ-centered community in which each person is welcome, valued, cared for, and respected.
- Provide supervision of Department Programs & Directors: DEIA, Prayer & Worship, Adult Spirituality Programs, Strategic Planning, and OMCS Programs Assistant.
- Responsible for departmental hiring with the support of HR per established hiring protocol.
- Network with similar Directors in other independent and Network schools.
- Keep the Director of Schools fully informed on all departmental issues.
- Support the school and its leadership on issues related to mission and educational philosophy.
- Direct reconciliation and provide guidance in matters of conflict within the community, as necessary.
- Actively uphold and model personal and professional behavior based on our Goals & Criteria.
- Actively participate on the Schools Administrative Council (SAC).
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access:
- Lead, inspire, support, and supervise the DEIA Director.
- Work with the Director, DEIA to lead the Goal IV Steering Committee.
- Oversee the implementation of the Board Statement on Equity, Justice, and Multicultural Education (2004) and the Board Resolution on Racial Justice (2020).
- Broad oversight of the Non-Tuition Related Financial Aid Program (daily process will be administered by the Family Services Coordinator).
Education to Mission:
- Provide oversight and direction for all Education to Mission programs with the goal of educating the SHS, Atherton adult community in the mission and heritage of the Society of the Sacred Heart and by providing a clear articulation of what it means to be a Catholic school as articulated and lived today by the Religious of the Sacred Heart.
- Overseeing the implementation of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools Education to Mission Plan (currently out of date).
- Oversee and monitor the programs associated with ETM; specifically, but not limited to, New Employee Orientation, all-school liturgies, New Employee Retreat, Busy Person's Retreat, Parent Spirituality Programs (Family Masses, Faith Formation Classes, Faith Sharing Groups), Come to the Quiet, Network Programs (Roots and Keepers).
- Supervise the ETM Team including the Minister of Sacred Heart Spirituality, Director of Prayer & Worship, and the Parents Education Coordinator.
Strategic Planning:
- Provide support to the Director of Schools in sustaining a consistent point of view on the School’s strategic priorities by driving the Living Agenda process in support of “Vision 2025” and any other institutional planning projects as assigned.
Provide leadership and detailed monitoring of School initiatives as defined by the Living Agenda
Coordinate Task Forces
Generate Reporting Processes for all constituent groups
Attend BOT committee meetings to learn about initiatives at the school and provide insight relative to the Living Agenda
Serve as a research resource for SAC initiatives.
Represent the School (Director) when necessary as it relates to School initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
- A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the Schools as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools and professional behavior based on it.
- Bachelor's degree or higher, MA strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive responsibility in areas of school leadership and in the field of diversity, inclusion and formation to mission.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive responsibilities in team building and supervising staff including demonstrated successful experience with all the compliance issues associated with management of staff.
- Excellent ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English. Strong preference for the same abilities in Spanish.
- Ability to analyze, interpret and manage data, and translate strategy into specific actions with clear accountability, making decisions based on best available information and communicating priorities clearly and concisely to school leadership.
- Experience designing and administering diversity education programming and curricula.
- Ability to lead/support organizational development, leadership development and change management initiatives.
- Experience presenting/leading diversity education programming to audiences of students, faculty, and parents.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current trends and thinking concerning diversity and inclusion.
- Excellent writing and public speaking skills, complemented by a demonstrated ability to effectively interact with students, staff and campus leaders in a variety of environments.
- Ability to develop rapport and create buy-in among individuals who are on a continuum of their levels of understanding and agreement with diversity, equity, and social justice.
- Ability to persuade, teach and build trust regarding key diversity and inclusion concepts and obligations.
- Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Regularly sit, talk, hear and interact with students, parents, staff and visitors
- Ability to work successfully in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts
- Must comply with all state vaccination requirements and show proof of vaccination including but not limited to COVID-19 or proof of eligibility for exemption.
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to travel comfortably and safely across the 64-acre campus
- Regularly uses close and distance vision
- Work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods of time
- Turn, bend, reach, and occasionally use a ladder
- Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment and occasionally outdoors in a variety of weather common to the mid-peninsula bay area
