Overview of the Executive Office of the Trial Court:
The Executive Office of the Trial Court is led by the Chief Justice of the Trial Court and the Court Administrator and oversees judicial and court operations, including the Office of Court Management. The Executive Office works collaboratively with the Trial Court’s seven Departments and Commissioners of Probation and Jury to develop and implement policies and initiatives that promote an environment of continuous improvement and ensure the most effective use of resources to support and enhance the delivery of justice in the Trial Court. The Executive Office also oversees the development and implementation of strategic planning for the Trial Court.

Position Summary: Working within the Executive Office of the Trial Court, the Chief Access, Diversity, and Fairness Officer (CADFO) for the Office of Access, Diversity, and Fairness (OADF) provides oversight of the court’s policies and practices related to access and fairness, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Departments and offices reporting to the CADFO are: the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Office for Language Access; Office of Court Services; Office of Access to Justice and the User Experience; and the Office of Alternative and Online Dispute Resolution. To the extent that other court departments employ staff focused on access and fairness (internally or externally), the CADFO shall share supervisory responsibility with departmental managers.
To further eliminate redundancies and improve focused performance the responsibilities of the CADFO include: ensuring departments and offices work in a coordinated and collaborative manner; identifying and establishing key priorities in conjunction with the Chief Justice of the Trial Court and Court Administrator; coordinating activities, projects and initiatives with Office of Court Management departments and courts; and coordinating Trial Court activities and initiatives with Supreme Judicial Court’s Access to Justice Commission as necessary.
Supervision Received: Receives general direction and oversight from the Chief Justice of the Trial Court and Court Administrator in performing duties in accordance with all best management practices and established guidelines.
Duties: Supervises and provides general oversight to the Directors and the work in the following five offices: Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Office for Language Access; Office of Court Services; Office of Access to Justice and User Experience; and the Office of Alternative and Online Dispute Resolution.
Utilizes leadership and communication skills to ensure collaboration among the departments and to advance the initiatives, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for access to justice and diversity in the Trial Court.
Serves as a thought leader and subject matter expert around issues of access to justice and diversity.
Submits budget recommendations and oversees the fiscal activities of all offices under the jurisdiction of the Office of Access, Diversity and Fairness.
Works in partnership with the Chief Justice and Court Administrator of the Trial Court in developing priorities for access to justice and diversity initiatives and ensuring their effective implementation.
Collaborates with internal Trial Court Departments and outside organizations for the purpose of building partnerships to advance access to justice and diversity interests.
Develops performance measures and other metrics as a basis for both individual and departmental assessments to support continuous improvement for all staff.
Participates in meetings, seminars, and conferences for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to improve operations and drive enhancements and innovations in access to justice and diversity programs and services.
Serves on committees as appointed by the Court Administrator or Chief Justice of the Trial Court, including serving as the Trial Courts’ main contact with the SJC’s Access to Justice Commission.
Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements: These are the minimum requirements necessary to apply for the position of Chief Access, Diversity and Fairness Officer:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university; and Ten (10) years of executive level experience advancing some combination of strategic plans, business operations, customer service, process improvement, and cultural competency for a large organization; A law or graduate degree is preferred;
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered for meeting the minimum qualifications;
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Demonstrated experience and ability to supervise multiple departments and employees, with particular experience in team building and collaboration.
Demonstrated project management and organizational skills with the ability to execute multiple concurrent projects to completion in a deadline-driven environment;
Demonstrated ability to recognize access to justice priorities and work cooperatively to support their accomplishment;
Demonstrated ability to work in or with a complex governmental or organizational structure to effect change with support from leaders and local offices;
Familiarity with courts and self-represented litigants;
Ability to analyze and determine the relevance of data to draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations to organizational leaders;
Skillful and experienced with interventions regarding matters relating to diversity, equity and inclusion, and access to justice;
Superior communication and customer-service skills;
Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills to evaluate all aspects of a situation and make appropriate decisions;
Ability to work professionally with court staff, court officials, judges, other professional organizations, and the general public to maintain effective working relationships;
Working knowledge of and ability to use personal computers, including proficiency with Microsoft Office; to develop databases and systems to record and track progress; and
Ability to travel within the Commonwealth.
