About Us
The Bakewell Company specializes in hand-made quiche. Our quiche line consists of 10 - 12 flavors which rotate through the year. Most of our ingredients are whole veggies, raw meats, and bulk dairy products which are prepared in-house to produce our classic fillings and flaky crust. We purchase whole ingredients from local suppliers and farms as much as possible. We see value in our ingredients beyond cost and strive to create food that both tastes and looks good.
Position Description
You will manage one of three prep stations in the Bakewell kitchen: crafting pastry crust, preparing quiche fillings, or assembling and baking product. While engaging in the art of preparing food to Bakewell quality standards, you will self-manage your time and ingredients and ensure the kitchen is meeting production needs. You will work as part of a kitchen team and may be asked to oversee our Prep Cooks.
Position Functions & Responsibilities
- Understands and implements the Bakewell brand of creating high-quality, delicious, and visually appealing food
- Works with the rest of the kitchen team effectively and takes leadership of one of three prep stations (creating crust, creating fillings, and assembling product)
- Self-structures workload to meet production needs
- Creates and utilizes prep lists
- Utilizes common kitchen techniques and skills such as measuring, portioning, prepping, peeling, chopping, slicing, mixing, searing, sautéing, braising, boiling, roasting, baking, etc.
- Mixes dough using knowledge of pastry fundamentals
- Preps raw/whole ingredients appropriately for cooking
- Prepares quiche fillings to meet quality, portion, and timeliness standards
- Procures ingredients as needed
- Stores ingredients and products according to the principles of food safety
- Assembles quiche using Bakewell standard assembly techniques
- Pays close attention to raw ingredient and finished product quality
- Continually cleans and maintains workspace
- Utilizes commercial kitchen tools safely, including knives, mixers, and heat/cold
- Understands and follows food safety principles
- Communicates progress and needs with owner/head chef openly
- Cross-trains on other prep/production stations in kitchen
- Answers questions related to cooking skills and techniques from Prep Cooks
- Takes responsibility for end-of-shift workspace and dish/kitchen tool cleaning
- Actively participates in Bakewell culture of positive and supportive workplace

Experience required:
- High level of knowledge of food and the principles of cooking. This knowledge would normally be acquired through at least an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts and at least 2 years in a commercial kitchen, bakery, or food service operation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- You must have a comfort level with commercial cooking without close supervision and be able to jump into the production in our fast-paced kitchen.
Availability
- This is a full-time position, with growth potential to Chef Production Lead position.
- Kitchen production runs from 8am-5pm, Tuesday-Friday and 8am-3pm Saturdays. Some flexibility may be available with shifts.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to bend, lift up to 50 lbs, work on your feet for an 8+ hour shift, and physically sustain 40+ hour work weeks.
