AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Sheridan School District is looking for a qualified individual to be a Charter School Special Education Teacher for Sheridan All Prep Academy (SHAPA). This position provides small group instruction, case manages students in virtual classrooms, coordinates intake and placement meetings, facilitates IEP meetings and provides consultation to general education teachers.


SHAPA is a K-12 virtual charter school. The special education program services are provided online, including a virtual classroom experience that contributes to individual and group excellence.


The Special Education Teacher works to provide a less restrictive educational environment. This includes direct and appropriate educational program services for mild to moderately handicapped students who require direct remedial instruction and support services in order to benefit from regular education. In addition to these specific individualized programs, this position may assist regular classroom teachers with selection of appropriate curricula and the development of behavior management programs. The Special Education teacher works under the supervision of the Special Programs Director.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
:

  • Candidate must hold an Oregon Teaching Certificate with Special Education endorsement and authorization
  • Virtual special education instructional experience is required
  • Background in SEL, conflict resolution, and instructional technology are desired
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations for special education
  • Ability to work collaboratively with general education teachers


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops an Individualized Educational Program (IEP) in basic academic skills and appropriate social behavior to ensure specific skill development.
  • Conducts annual parent/teacher conference to revise IEP.
  • Collects data from systematic observations of the classroom setting.
  • Integrates students into the regular classroom for as much of the day as possible.
  • Provides an appropriate learning environment to facilitate eventual reintegration.
  • Assists with the reintegration progress and monitor progress to ensure success.
  • Complies with specifications established by PL 94-142.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary staffing meetings as necessary.
  • Provides an appropriate positive learning environment which will enable students to reach their full potential.
  • Facilitates positive interaction among students, staff and parents.
  • Assists parents in understanding their child’s potential for success.
  • Records and analyzes continuous assessment data showing student progress.
  • Provides information to assist in the purchasing of appropriate materials.
  • Fulfills other related duties as assigned or assumed.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Completion of course work satisfying the requirement for issuance of a valid Oregon Teaching License with Special Eduction endorsement.


Demonstrated ability to support and maintain school and district policies and to successfully plan and complete assigned responsibilities within identified resources and timelines.


Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and appropriately in speech and in writing in accord with educational standards.


Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team setting with school staff.
