Job Title: Certified Phlebotomy Technician

Job Summary:

The Certified Phlebotomy Technician is responsible to perform phlebotomy, specimen processing, micro plating, and assisting the CLS in the laboratory. Professional application of the laboratory’s principles, theories, techniques of phlebotomy and specimen processing will be required. This position reports to the lead laboratory assistant, laboratory manager/supervisor, and/or the administrative director of Laboratory services.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Follows the hospital’s policies and procedures and documents their review.
  • Demonstrates ability to draw blood on all age groups, following each step of the laboratory procedure.
  • Troubleshoots problems, documents specimen rejection, prepares send-out specimens and performs billing procedures.
  • Orients and trains new staff.
  • Keeps work area supplied, orderly and clean.
  • Assists the CLS in the lab by centrifuging, organizing the specimens, placing specimens on the instruments to initiate a test run, making smears, plating micro, maintaining the instruments, and doing inventory.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the lab manager/supervisor/lab administrative director.

Education/Experience:

  • Possesses a high school diploma and has a minimum of 1-year phlebotomy experience in an accredited hospital clinical laboratory. Experience working with laboratory instrumentation is preferred.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Current California Certified Phlebotomy Technician License
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Certificate
