Apollo Technical has an Immediate need for a Certified Welding Inspector in the Fort Worth area.
Job Description
The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) performs inspections on welded products in a fabrication environment. The CWI utilizes magnification and stress equipment to ensure the products meet specifications and quality standards according to blueprints and knowledge of welding and metallurgy. The individual is also responsible for ensuring the weld machines are set up and operating correctly and the welding techniques of welders to guarantee the quality of the work. **
Essential Duties include the following:

  • Adhere to all safety requirements and protocols.
  • Meet AWS standards for quality and safety.
  • Read work instructions and/or drawings to interpret and confirm production and/or assembly information.
  • Verify that the base materials and consumable welding materials conform to the specifications and that the welding filler materials used are as specified for each base material or combination of base materials.
  • Verify that the welding equipment to be used for the work is appropriate for the use with the welding procedure and has the capability to meet the applicable requirements of the welding procedure.
  • Verify that the welding procedures are as specified and are qualified, and that the welding performed is performed in conformation to the applicable procedure.
  • Perform required tests as dictated by AWS D1.1.
  • Record and maintain inspection test data.
  • Perform cost analysis of weld efficiency.
  • Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department Leader or member of the

Management Team, and as directed discard products, materials, and/or equipment which do not meet specifications.

  • Conduct research and development investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures.
  • Improve existing or develop new welding equipment as needed.
  • Develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques and procedures as necessary.
  • Establish welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post-heating requirements.
  • Evaluate new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes.
  • Complete job requirements with minimal supervision.
  • Contact agencies, drafting and engineering personnel, and/or clients to exchange ideas, information, or offer technical advice concerning welding matters.
  • Perform experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials.
  • Utilize conventional and precision measuring instruments.
  • Accurately document applicable job, product and quality information utilizing computer and paper documents as required.
  • Verify that welders, welding operators, and tack welders have been qualified in conformance to the applicable standards, and that they are re-qualified to use the welding procedures specified for the work.
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and tools as required/requested.
  • Focus on quality and speed, performing all tasks with a sense of urgency toward excellence.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Management Team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma
  • Must possess active American Welding Society CWI Certificate and maintain for continued employment
  • Working knowledge of wire and filler materials applications for various steel alloys, aluminum, and some exotic materials
  • Knowledge of fixtures and weld set up parameters such as amps, volts, etc.
  • Three years of experience as a CWI - preferably in a fabrication shop
  • NDT experience not necessary
  • Must be familiar with all machines required to perform the tasks stated above
