Job Summary and Qualifications

• Decontaminates, cleans, and processes all instruments and special equipment from surgery, obstetrics, patient units, and physician’s offices.

• Picks supplies for surgeries according to surgeon preference cards.

• Practices infection control protocols in all tasks performed.

• Knows and understands the medical and product terminology pertinent to the department.

• Demonstrates the ability to use the computer to generate physician’s preference cards.

• Handles sterile items with care following principles of aseptic technique.

• Rotates stock and checks sterility (package integrity) on all instruments and instrument trays.

• Follows manufacturers cleaning and sterilization recommendations when processing instruments and equipment.

• Demonstrates a complete knowledge of sterilization methods (steam and ETO) and recognizes legal responsibilities regarding the process of sterilization.

What qualifications you will need:

• 
  High school graduate or equivalent (preferred)

• Ability to read and interpret oral and written instructions. (required)

• Central Sterile Technician Certification(preferred)

• 
  Prior medical experience (required)

• 1 year of prior Central Sterile Technician experience (preferred)
