Summary:
The Wahluke School district is in need of a CTE teacher qualified to teach CTE courses in the agriculture pathway, and as an FFA Advisory for activities, and successful SAE projects. Supplemental contracts beyond the base salary schedule include and FFA Advisor stipend of 10% of State Base Salary; 30 days for Student Projects and Summer Activities; 4 Additional days. In addition to these CTE Stipends, Wahluke Certified staff also receive a 3% Professional Learning Activity Stipend; 5 TRI-Days; Professional Developement Funds; Longevity Stipends beginning in fifth year of teaching.

The agricultural education instructor is employed by Wahluke School District to teach agricultural education courses as approved by the Wahluke School District and the Office of the Superintendent of Instruction.


Qualifications Required:

  • Washington State Teacher's Certificate appropriate for high school
  • Washington State Career and Technical Education Certification in Agriculture Science and Work-Based Learning endorsement
  • Current first aid/CPR card required
  • Valid Driver's License and auto insurance. Qualified to drive a district vehicle and transport students.
  • Satisfactory evaluations
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have received approved exemption prior to beginning work


Qualifications Preferred:

  • Evidence of a thorough knowledge of skills needed to build and maintain a successful agriculture science program.
  • Evidence of training or experience using technology and real world applications to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to align agriculture curriculum with the state essential learning requirements for science.
  • A team player who works cooperatively within the department, organization, and community.
  • Ability to motivate and instruct students of all ability levels with emphasis on providing for their individual learning styles (Basic levels and extensions beyond basics).
  • Training or experience supervising student Career & Technical Student Organization (FFA).
  • Demonstrated success in maintaining a positive, productive learning environment within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.
  • Evidence of knowledge in agriculture

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach agriculture science courses including, but not limited to, horticulture, agriculture mechanics, floral design, plant science.
  • Teach and model lab (shop, barn, classroom, fair, vehicle and trailer) safety
  • Maintain safe, orderly, and clean lab facilities, equipment, vehicles, and fair barns.
  • Participate in the curriculum development process to further integrate NGSS and Common Core Math and English standards.
  • Collaborate with Science and Math PLC.
  • Collaborate with STEM PLC.
  • Collaborate with post-secondary institutions to develop articulation agreements.
  • Collaborate with the appropriate agencies and bodies to incorporate industry recognized credentials (IRCs).
  • Incorporate new and emerging technologies into the instructional process.
  • Develop business and community partnerships (employers, service organizations, guest speakers, apprenticeships, etc).
  • Develop and maintain communications with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Advocate and support Work-based Learning (WBL) for all students.
  • Be flexible, innovative, cooperative with changes in education; facility use, district norms, practices and philosophies.
  • Participate in building-wide programs including, and not limited to; teaching technology, violence reduction/prevention, multicultural education, social and emotional learning (SEL), Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS), Balanced Calendar, grading practices, dual language, migrant education, district Strategic Plan, and other initiatives.
  • Follow the requirements and practices around IDEA, Section 504, and ADA in the education of students with disabilities.
  • Participate in parent conferences, IEP meetings, and other student-parent conferences and decisions.
  • The instructor is a full-time, 12-month employee and will teach only approved agricultural education courses, and participate as an FFA Advisor.
  • The instructor will attend professional development, maintain clock hours, and stay abreast in the field.
  • Update and maintain the Agriculture frameworks, program evaluations, and other required documents for the program and to be submitted on time.

Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs pounds and 50 lbs with assistance; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of situations and temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate. This position includes, but is not limited to, working with livestock, driving tractors and vehicles with trailers, using industrial-grade equipment, professional tools, uneven terrain, working in barns, shops, and outdoors, etc

FFA Advisor

In addition to the Wahluke School District teacher calendar, the successful candidate will also be an FFA Advisor, will earn a stipend according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.


  • The successful candidate will be able, available, and willing to supervise students’ SAEs though school-based, work-site, and/or home visits.
  • Also, the instructor will provide feedback and direction to the student's SAE.
  • The Advisor will conduct FFA meetings according to required intervals and following CTSO requirements including maintaining an appropriate advisory council.
  • The instructor will outline a summer calendar detailing FFA activities, judging contests, and/or livestock shows that he/she will be attending. The summer calendar will also include the instructor's scheduled vacation.
  • The instructor will maintain an active program during the summer. The instructor will continue to supervise students SAEs. The instructor will promote student attendance and provide transportation for students to attend FFA leadership activities, summer field days, and/or livestock events and shows. In addition, the instructor should work with the local community on projects or activities.
  • The instructor will provide opportunities for students to participate and be active in the local FFA chapter.
  • The instructor will adhere to the ASB rules and regulations.
  • FFA meetings will include officer elections, regular minutes.
  • Requisitions will be submitted to the ASB secretary with all components completed and attached in a timely manner adhering to Wahluke processes and procedures.
  • Hours and days worked will be documented and submitted to CTE Director, and to HR on monthly basis and indicate FFA Advisor functions, or Student Projects and Summer activities beyond the advisor stipend expectations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Participate in curriculum review and design.
  • Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.
  • Monitor student progress, reflect on teaching strategies, and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Effectively implement district initiatives.
  • Serve as role model and leader to CTE students. Lead and supervise students in CTE and FFA activities both on campus, and off campus.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with students.
  • Effectively collaborate with department and grade level teachers.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  • Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  • Willingness and ability to attend trainings/meetings that may include overnight travel.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation (accurate attendance daily, up-to-date grades)
  • Serve on committees as assigned.
  • Remain current on instructional practices in education. (e.g. instructional technology)
  • Support the total school program by observing curricular and extracurricular student activities.
  • Exhibit dependability and punctuality in assigned duties.
  • Display appropriate personal and professional traits that exhibit a positive role model for students.
  • Strive to achieve the objectives and expectations of the Teacher Performance Evaluation Plan.
  • Collaborate with Intervention Specialists and share pertinent information with building administration and intervention teams.
