The Department of Family and Consumer Studies (FCS) in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (CSBS) at the University of Utah invites applications for a career-line faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor (Lecturer). The faculty member will have an 80% teaching and 20% service nine-month, full-time appointment in the FCS. The initial contract will be for the academic year 2023-2024, although it is expected to renew with subsequent appointments of a longer duration, dependent upon performance, departmental needs, and budgetary approvals. In partnership with Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), the University of Utah is expanding course offerings at an instructional site in Herriman, Utah, located approximately 30 miles from the main campus in Salt Lake City.

We are looking for faculty who are excited to support the educational mission of the Department and strengthen our award-winning Financial Planning and Counseling program.
The successful applicant will be administratively housed in the Herriman campus, with shared responsibilities to support the Financial Planning and Counseling Program at the main campus. This position will contribute directly to the teaching needs of the Herriman campus: Research Methods, Statistics, Family Economics, or Investments, as well as other relevant courses required by the Financial Planning and Counseling Program of FCS at the main campus, registered with the CFP® Board and AFCPE®. In-person classes will be scheduled in Herriman, though teaching responsibilities will also include online classes that serve both the main campus and the Herriman campus. This position also will be responsible for coordinating our program with SLCC and providing administrative support for the Program Director at the main campus. The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree or be expected to earn a doctoral degree before July 2023 in Family Resource Management, Personal Financial Planning, Consumer Sciences, and similar fields. Having a CFP® designation or being on track to earn the designation is strongly desired.

Position responsibilities include:
1. Serving as the coordinator of the Financial Planning and Counseling Program at the Herriman Campus
The coordinator will be responsible for the administration of the Financial Planning and Counseling Program at the Herriman Campus. Specific activities may include working with FCS and Herriman faculty and staff to manage curriculum, supervising students, filing annual reports to the CFP® board, and meeting other required conditions to maintain the current status with the CFP® Board and AFCPE®.
2. Teaching 7 courses per year (typically scheduled as 4-3 during the fall and spring semesters or 3-3-1, with the single course being taught during summer):
These courses will be FCS 3200 Research methods, FCS 3210 Statistics, and either FCS 3450 Family economic issues or FCS 5510 Investments, offered in person at the Herriman campus. Other courses will be required courses for the CFP® Board, and AFCPE® offered online. The specific teaching schedule and responsibilities will be determined through discussions with the FCS Chair.
3. Service as a faculty member in the FCS Department. This faculty position comes with the benefits and duties expected in the FCS Department, including participation in monthly faculty meetings, serving on departmental committees as needed, and serving as a mentor or committee member for graduate or undergraduate students in FCS, as appropriate.
4. Service on college or university committees, as interested or relevant to the position.
5. There are no formal research expectations associated with this position; however, the successful applicant may pursue an independent research agenda and would be eligible to apply for college and university research support.
