HCW Qualifications:

Degree/Education: Certificate

Education: Graduate from a Cardiovascular Technologist program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) through the Joint Review Committee in Cardiovascular Technology (JRC-CVT).

Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: Must have and maintain a valid and current Basic Life Support (BLS) card and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Experience: One year of experience as a Cardiovascular Technologist after graduation.

Board Certification: N/A

Licensure/Registration: Registered as a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) as determined by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) is required. Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) is preferred.

HCW Duties: The duties for the HCW are as follows: Cardiac Catheterization Technician shall be capable of performing the following Core Duties as outlined in Exhibit 5 under Ancillary Services Labor Category:

  • Perform duties within the scope of practice determined by didactic, laboratory, and clinical technological education and registration.
  • Review and/or record pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data.
  • Perform appropriate clinical procedures and obtain a record of anatomical, pathological, and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician.
  • Exercise discretion and judgment in the performance of cardiovascular diagnostic and therapeutic services.
  • Participate in interventional cardiovascular catheterization and/or cardiac electrophysiology procedures, including, but not limited to balloon angioplasty, stent insertion, radiofrequency ablation, and pacemaker and/or implantable defibrillator insertion. Must have knowledge or an aptitude to learn new, increasingly complex, and rapidly changing technology of equipment and procedures.
  • Perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations.
  • Operate equipment identified in the TO. Perform daily warm up and assigned quality control checks of the equipment.
  • Receive patients and explain procedures, providing humane and appropriate care and communication to alleviate fear of examination. Correctly position the patient for the examination and make adjustments necessary for the required examination.
  • Input key test data and patient information into computer of equipment to maintain record of test results.
  • Identify abnormalities during testing and determine the need for additional scans of affected area.
  • Recognize anatomic variants and determine which other area(s) of the body should be scanned.
  • Maintain and clean equipment on a regular basis in accordance with MTF policy. Stock and maintain an adequate level of supplies required for diagnostic procedures. Recommend necessary repairs when diagnostic and therapeutic quality is degraded.
  • Knowledge of universal precautions, infection control techniques and methods of cleaning and sterilization of surgical equipment.
  • Knowledge of infection control concepts and how to minimize hospital acquired patient infections and ensure health care provider/personal protection through proper use of personal protective equipment and safe clinical practices.
  • Possess the ability to work as a member of a team when performing procedures that require effective communication and making rapid and accurate observations or adjustments to established practices. Daily utilization of time management and critical thinking skills is essential.
  • Knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. Knowledge of diseases of other systems and their impact upon the cardiovascular system. A basic understanding of congenital and acquired heart disease and peripheral vascular disease is necessary. Understanding of the pathophysiology or disease process of atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, supraventricular tachycardia, cardiomyopathy, myocardial infarction, valvular disorders, and the associated manifestations in patients.

Schedule Management: The TO will establish the work schedule and billable hours for each HCW. The Contractor shall maintain a process to monitor work and billable hours on the TO. When directed by the Government, the HCW shall remain on duty to complete patient treatment where lack of continuity of care would otherwise jeopardize patient health. This provision is not intended to apply to the time required to complete routine tasks (e.g., completion of paperwork or routine administrative tasks at the end of a shift) which are to be completed as part of the normal work schedule.

Schedule Management for Personal Services: The work schedule for each labor category is as follows:

07:30-16:30 during regular work week.

Schedule Management for Non-Personal Services: Hours of service and roster submission requirements are as follows: N/A

On-Call Hours: On-call requirements for each labor category are as follows:

HCW may be on call for one week per month to provide 24 hour coverage for emergent/urgent studies. On call includes nights and weekends as defined by COR/Clinic Chief/on-site supervisor.

Call-Back Hours: HCWs ☒ will ☐ will not be required to report in-person to the MTF during on-call hours if needed. The number of call-back hours and timeframe is as follows:

HCW may be on call for one week per month (depending on the number of available Active Duty, Civil Service, and contract HCWs in that same specialty within the clinic) to provide 24 hour coverage for emergent/urgent studies. On call includes weekends and non-duty hours as defined by COR/Clinic Chief/on-site supervisor.

Overage Hours: Overage hours for each labor category are as follows:

If needed to complete patient workload, and must be approved in advance by COR or Clinic Chief.

Pay: $1,624.71 - $3,188.92 per week
