Job Description
NREL’s Facilities and Operations' Project Management Organization is seeking a skilled data analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the management, upkeep and continued improvement of the analytical processes, tools and systems that support NREL’s capital program. Housed within the Site Operations center, the Capital Investments Analyst is part of a diverse group of interdisciplinary experts from project management, engineering and construction, as well as research operations working together to strategically deliver state-of-the-art research laboratories and other facilities.
On-site, hybrid, and remote work settings are available for the successful candidate.
The successful candidate can expect to:
  • Collaborate with project management teams to identify and prioritize data needs and requirements;
  • Maintain and improve data quality by conducting regular data audits and cleanups;
  • Develop and maintain documentation of data analysis and reporting processes;
  • Train and educate team members on data analysis tools and techniques.

Basic Qualifications
Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant JD or equivalent relevant education/experience. Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Considerable knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field. Strong leadership, project management and problem solving skills. Ability to use various computer software programs.
  • Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze complex data sets to identify trends and extract insights that can be used to inform decisions;
  • Demonstrated ability to design and develop reports and dashboards using common data visualization tools, including but not limited to Power BI and Tableau;
  • Demonstrated understanding of relational databases, including ability to create and maintain databases to ensure accuracy and accessibility of data;
  • Demonstrated skillset in structured data analysis, including use of tools such as SQL, Power Query, Excel, and/or Access to extract, transform and load data from various sources;
  • Demonstrated basic coding skills in common languages such as Python or R.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)
Job Profile: Professional III / Annual Salary Range: $77,600 - $139,700
NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
