Camp Invention Instructor

Compensation:

$1,550.00 per week - plus additional hourly stipend if remote session is added

Dates:

July 18 - 29, 2021 Camp (plus pre-camp course preparation/training)

Organizational Relationship:

Responds directly to the Director of Camp Invention, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning and the Superintendent of Schools.

Camp Summary:

The Camp will accept 87 MPS students per week. This position provides a gratifying experience to those with a true appreciation for enrichment for science programs. Camp Invention is a leader in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Children in grades 3 through 5 are presented with fun, hands-on challenges that encourage creative problem solving, teamwork, entrepreneurship, and innovation. This year's camp will be taught in person with possible synchronous, daily remote check ins with at home students.

Performance and Responsibilites:

Camp Invention Instructors engage with children through hands-on, inquiry-based activities that are part of an overall story line and theme. Kits will be provided to students in school or at home. Each day features inventor stories, step-by-step instructions, guiding questions, and discussions. Educators can apply their experiences from Camp Invention to their classrooms during the school year, such as facilitating project-based learning, practicing divergent and convergent thinking, incorporating open-ended instruction, and implementing tips for teams. Instructors must attend online programs, team meetings, and trainings. Instructors perform all other duties assigned by the Director of Camp Invention, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning and the Superintendent.

• Must be flexible, creative and enthusiastic.
• Passionate about engaging children.
• Interested or experienced in student-led learning.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm when representing Camp Invention and MPS.
• Display creativity, fexibility and resourcefulness.
• Certified Teachers preferred
