Job Title: Summer Camp Counselor
FLSA Status: Non Exempt
Department: Athletics/Student Life
Position Summary: Responsible for monitoring, communicating and overseeing the day to day sport and social routines of our campers aged 8-12. Will assist in the oversight of camper well-being, in the residence halls while promoting a safe, secure and healthy environment for their development
Position Responsibilities
- Serve as a responsible, adult presence, providing guidance and support in the residence halls, Campus Center and Sport Facilities for campers aged 8-12 yrs
- Monitor camper day-to-day activities including transit to/from sport, to/from APD, and to/from meal times while keeping track of camper daily schedules
- Oversight of (8-12yr olds) in one particular sport (Baseball, Basketball, Football, Golf, Soccer, Tennis) or in a flex role overseeing multiple camp functions
- Oversee Non-Boarding Camp Area(s) during mid day break times
- Assist as the point of communication for camper experience with this age segment reporting to Associate Athletic Director and Assistant Director(s) of Campus Life
- Assist in the analysis and implementation of policies and procedures ensuring that the student-athlete code of conduct is being maintained
- Promote a positive healthy environment for the student-athletes
- Evaluate, oversee, and maintain the residential hall, including room checks, maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy living environment
- Prioritize and manage multiple projects, diligently track and meet deadlines that affect student and campus life
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and business ethic codes
- Other duties as assigned
Sport Program Operations
- Oversee arrival and departures of Campers to check-in and checkout location
- Assist as requested by sport
- Ensure Pre and Post Sport arrival/departure for camp delivery
- Assist Sport Coaching staff when needed
- Work directly with campers to ensure proper hydration, application of sunscreen
- Manage communication with families as needed about camper experience
- Other duties as assigned
Student Life Operations
- Assist Residential Mentors with monitoring students in dorms and throughout campus, including wake up and curfew times
- Assist with camper transport to and from activity opportunities including both on and off campus excursions
Communication
- Communicate and follow up on conduct expectations of all campers
- Collaborate and communicate emergency response and crisis management plans for various situations including weather, lockdown, student illness, injury, etc.
- Communicate openly and regularly with Associate Athletic Director about Camper successes and concerns
- Assist with orientation and acclimation of campers to campus life
Knowledge, Skills and Ability
- Bachelor’s degree in related area or Bachelor’s Degree in Process in related area
- Willingness to live on-campus in a semi-private room
- Must have a valid Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one
- Must possess good judgment and sensitivity relating to students of various backgrounds
- Ability to handle challenging situations professionally and with sensitivity
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent guest service skills
- Highly organized with the ability to juggle multiple projects
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced organization
- A superior work ethic
- Desire to work collaboratively with colleagues
Preferred Skills
- Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, or related area
- Experience in education, sports or related area
- Experience as collegiate athlete
- Experience with residential life, summer camps, or secondary school
- Experience with overseeing 50+ kids/campers
- Experience in counseling, crisis response, and mediation
- First Aid and CPR Certification
- Proficient with computer and web applications
- Bilingual
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to lift, move, push and pull equipment or boxes in excess of 40lbs.
- Must be able to move around residence hall, including stairs
- Ability to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends and holidays is required
