Camp Counselor for the Weaverville Summer Day Camp Job at Trinity County Resource Conservation District

Trinity County Resource Conservation District (RCD) is accepting applications for temporary Summer Day Camp Counselors. The Camp Counselor works under the supervision of the Weaverville Summer Day Camp Coordinator. The Camp Counselor is responsible for supervising children and ensuring the camp environment is safe and fun. The position will be Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, an average of 8 hours a day, for four weeks and a day between June 26 and July 24, 2023. This is a part-time position without paid leave or medical benefits. This position requires working as a team player.
Camp Counselors Qualifications:
- Enrolled in high school or have recently graduated.
- Experience working and desire to work with children (i.e., babysitting, church, family,) and ability to interact positively with children from different backgrounds and cultures.
- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, work cohesively with a team, and stay on time.
- Demonstrates ability to follow directions and problem-solve.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude when faced with adverse conditions, including extreme weather, cranky children, and sudden events.
Duties:
- Attend mandatory training and planning sessions before camp (including first aid, mandatory reporter, and counselor training).
- Be a positive role model for the campers.
- Supervise or co-supervise a group of 10-15 children ages 6-12, ensuring a safe camp environment.
- Facilitate daily camp activities, games, team-building exercises, and field trips.
- Address minor medical needs of campers while referring major medical needs to the camp coordinator.
- Communicate problems or concerns to the Camp
- Complete daily clean-up and camp
- Collaborate with peer counselors to develop the camp curriculum.
- Other duties as assigned.
