CAMP ACADEMIC ADVISOR Job at Crowder College
Position Summary
The Academic Advisor provides academic support and student services to the College Assistance Migrant Program, a 12
month fully funded grant program; thus, this position is contingent upon continued grant funding. The position provides
program support through enrollment, coordination of student academic meetings, and regular grade checks, management
of tutoring sessions, intensive advising, and reporting on each student’s academic progress. Position will also develop and
implement student workshops to address the challenges of their first year in college. Academic Advisor will support all
advising activities, report student progress and perform other tasks as assigned including collaboration with the Retention
Specialist regarding student graduation and/or assist with transfer plans, provide career advisement and job shadowing
opportunities in coordination with Career Services personnel. Some local and regional travel is required.
Essential Job Duties
The primary function of professional staff members at Crowder College is to help Crowder students maximize their
learning. Duties include those related to student advisement, professional enrichment, institutional service and other
tasks associated with full-time professional staff, which may include evenings and weekends. Learning is the key to human
growth and development. In order to help our students be better learners, staff members in general are expected to:
- Devote full time and energy to maximize student learning outcomes.
- Maintain confidential relationships with respect to student information.
- Assist participants to achieve their educational goals through intensive academic advising and career advisement.
- Oversees tutoring services for CAMP students; coordinating tutoring services with other programs on campus.
- Evaluating student’s abilities, interests, and career inventories to develop academic and career goals.
- Implement and organize CAMP peer mentoring component.
- Produce CAMP Newsletter and oversee activities of the student newsletter staff.
- Maintain regular communication and positive relationships with participants and CAMP Staff.
- Coordinate CAMP services and strategies with other Crowder College student services.
- Travel with participants on all CAMP excursions such as college visits, cultural visits, and orientation.
- Maintain files on program participants, and submit required reports by deadlines.
- Process grade checks with student follow-up with At-Risk-Interventions/Tutoring in a timely fashion.
- Be readily available to students for remediation, intervention, etc.
- Serve on institutional committees as needed.
- Support college activities.
- Perform departmental and divisional responsibilities.
- Must attend graduation ceremonies.
- Assist as necessary, at recruitment events on or off campus.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree required;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with sensitivity to migrant cultures and/or diverse populations.
- Ability to plan, organize and implement responsibilities effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, other professionals, staff, and the
public.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Master’s preferred in education, guidance and counseling or another relevant field.
- Two years of experience in academic advising and/or student academic services.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not required.
Equipment/Software
- Skills necessary to utilize computer to manage and improve instruction.
- Ability to operate a computer using Windows environment.
- Ability to operate a computer within the Crowder College network environment.
- Ability to utilize email.
- Ability to perform basic Microsoft Office 365 components (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point)
- Ability to perform basic Learning Management System functions.

- Generally, indoors in a normal office environment with minimal exposure to temperature changes, noise, dust or
