The Role
We are seeking a Buyer with a strong drive to acquire high quality components at overall best prices to support our rapidly growing manufacturing network. A successful candidate for this role will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and attention to detail. In addition, they will possess high energy, embrace a fast-paced, entrepreneurial culture, and a can-do mentality.
Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager and working with a team of Supply Chain professionals, the Buyer is responsible for securing from outside sources the material necessary to support manufacturing and customer forecasts using company procurement practices. Manage efficient ordering schedules, follow through with component shortage escalations, and identify opportunities to reduce procurement and inventory costs. Assist Manager in further development of inventory management and procurement strategies and procedures.
Buyers routinely work directly with outside suppliers, new product development, logistics, quality, production, and other department staff to meet/exceed current and projected company goals and customer requirements.
Responsibilities
- Analyze inventory levels for planning and procurement including on hand quantities, lead times and production schedules across multiple production facilities across the US.
- Create, monitor, and follow up on purchase orders for status updates and issue resolution.
- Maintain accurate records and properly record transactions in ERP system.
- Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, service, reliability, and reputation.
- Record, maintain and review records of items purchased, costs, sales, deliveries, and inventory balances while contributing to the overall Supply Chain strategy.
- Negotiate, renegotiate, and administer contracts with suppliers, vendors, and other representatives.
- Sourcing of project specific materials based on customer needs.
- Develop effective relationships with suppliers and manufacturing facilities.
- Participate in and be a key player in operational planning and production scheduling.
- Manage and measure supplier performance and provide reports on such to management to encourage continual improvement of processes and products/services.
- Engage with quality and manufacturing regarding the supplier quality issues and standards.
- Embrace a fast-paced environment that requires a sense of urgency in relation to the needs of both internal and external customers.
- Manage transition from old products being discontinued to new products being introduced.
- Other duties and responsibilities as determined by the Company.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in supply chain or business.
- 5+ years of supply chain experience, with 3+ in procurement/buying/planning.
- Excellent problem resolution skills.
- The ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a high-volume environment.
- Detailed oriented, well-organized, self-starter.
Stand Out
- APICs / CPIM certification
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
- ERP software experience.
