Organizational Overview
The Business Services Directorate (BSD) provides high-quality business services to support the Lab's research initiatives by participating in cross-functional teams with a focus on risk mitigation and cost management, which is a critical component to the Lab's success. Led by the Chief Financial Officer, Brookhaven’s Business Services Directorate includes the Budget Office, Fiscal Services Division, Procurement & Property Management Division, Chief Financial Office, and the Business Operations Offices. The Directorate manages a broad range of financial activities, including the planning and implementation of the Lab’s fiscal matters and its approximately $700 million annual budget.
Position Description
As a member of the Human Resources (HR) and Business Services Directorates (BSD) Business Office, the successful candidate is a business professional that will perform a wide variety of financial functions for the Human Resource Division, including budgeting, personnel forecasting, monthly reporting, LCDS, maintaining signatory, and approval of departmental procurements, invoices, and travel. In addition, the candidate will work closely with the Business Team to back-up support for the Information Technology Division and Business Services Directorate, when needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support financial oversight of the HR and BSD Directorates with primary support to Human Resources.
- Act as the central point of contact for all Human Resource budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
- Act as the business liaison between Human Resources and all Business Offices at BNL.
- Manage Human Resource timecards and labor accounts.
- Act as approving official for Business Operations Office credit card holder.
- Generate journal vouchers/entries through PeopleSoft Financials.
- Maintain signatory documentation for the Human Resources Directorate.
- Participate in the development of procedural improvements and problem resolution, as needed.
Position Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- BA or BS degree in a business field or equivalent experience based on 2:1 (experience:college) years, plus four (4) years of related work experience.
- Knowledge of Office365, especially Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials and running financial queries.
- Understanding of OneDrive.
- Flexible team player with the ability to interact with staff to accomplish objectives and resolve issues.
- Ability to establish positive working relationships at all levels.
- Ability to prioritize and effectively deal with deadlines.
- Ability to identify and resolve the majority of problems within own area of responsibility.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Must be self-motivated, resourceful, and organized, taking ownership of all assigned work.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Interest in the science mission of the Laboratory.
- PeopleSoft HR and LCDS.
- Creating and running queries and reports.
- Experience with PowerBI.
- Understanding of GAAP/CAS standards.
Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements:
- Ability to work at a computer for most of the day.
- Requires the ability to concentrate on accuracy.
