Business Assistants are often the first point of contact for Purdue faculty and staff when interacting with the Purdue Finance Team. In this role, they serve as a key point of contact and assist with ensuring the appropriate application of all related guidelines, policies, and procedures for the faculty and staff in the assigned business area. Business Assistants work in the areas of account management, payroll, or procurement. Responsibilities may include financial forecasting, reviewing transactions for allowability and allocability to sponsored funding, processing employment actions in the system, ensuring the accuracy of payroll data, placing orders, paying vendors, etc. Serve as a key point of contact for all account management, payroll, or procurement-related questions while assisting departmental faculty, staff, and students with their needs. Utilize the Footprints tracking system to manage workflow.

Required:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Three (3) years experience as an account clerk, bookkeeping, business, or related experience
  • Experience with procurement, payroll, or account management
  • Experience in providing a high level of customer service

S3 Senior Required:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Four (4) years experience as an account clerk, bookkeeping, business, or related experience
  • Experience with procurement, payroll, or account management
  • Experience in providing a high level of customer service

S4 Lead Required:

  • Associates degree
  • 4 years experience in account clerk, bookkeeping, business, or related experience position

Preferred:

  • BA/BS degree
  • Experience in the preparation and delivery of process metrics/reports

Other Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems, analyze information and implement solutions
  • Capable of taking initiative, assuming responsibility, maintaining quality standards, and handling confidential information with discretion
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with an emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels
  • Must be extremely flexible and adaptable to constantly varying work environments and with limited daily supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret and implement policies and procedures
  • Proficient with personal computer and related software (Microsoft Excel, Outlook, database, internet, etc.)
  • Ability to handle interruptions while meeting deadlines with accurate results and providing exceptional customer service
  • Must possess a learning orientation to changing technology
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to problem-solve and analyze complex issues
  • Ability to provide coaching and training to others
