Grand Coulee, Wilbur, Davenport, Rock Island, Odessa, Harrington, Lind, Almira,
Creston, Electric City, Coulee City, Connell and Washtucna. (One or more of these
cities will be specified).

General Summary

Under the direction of the Transportation Manager/Supervisor and in accordance with the guidelines, and
policies of the company and local, state and federal laws, this position provides driving duties for seniors,
disabled, and the general public for paratransit trips, fixed/deviated scheduled routes, and/or for special
trips. Responsible for the efficient and safe operation of passenger vehicles under varying traffic and road
conditions; transporting passengers in a safe, courteous, and timely manner; properly collecting all
authorized fares and donations; maintaining complete and accurate documentation of services performed;
and for promoting and maintaining positive and professional relationships with passengers, other
employees, and the general public.

Essential Function and Duties

  • Provides safe, comfortable, and reliable transportation to the public; promotes positive passenger
relations; presents a pleasant disposition; maintains a clean, neat appearance that complies with
company and contract uniform regulations.


  • Operates all vehicles in a safe manner, using defensive driving techniques; maintains on-time schedule;
makes designated stops either on assigned routes or at pickup and drop-off locations utilizing “door-to-
door” or “curb-to-curb” service as applicable.
  • Greets passengers in a friendly, courteous manner; provides information concerning routes, schedules,
and transfer points. Assists senior citizens and/or disabled passengers in and out of vehicles and
ensures they are properly secured if required using the provided devices.
  • Collects appropriate cash donations and ticket fares, through the operation of a fare box collection
system; issues transfers; checks pass and other fare instruments.
  • Observes all vehicle regulations and/or other rules, policies, and regulations as outlined by the
Company, State or Federal regulations.
  • Communicates with the office or Supervisor concerning equipment, operational or passenger problems;
reports all accidents/incidents, by using a two-way radio, and/or completing appropriate written
reports. Monitors two-way radio, reporting conditions such as mechanical malfunctions, delays in
service, and traffic problems using predetermined codes.
  • Must maintain all required certifications and attend meetings/training sessions when scheduled.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to operate a transit passenger vehicle in accordance with traffic laws, ordinances, rules and
driving courtesies; calculate and handle fares and donations; and complete required forms and written
reports.
  • Ability to speak clearly, to read and interpret written policies and instructions.
  • Ability to be sensitive to a diverse group of individuals, including the elderly and persons with

disabilities.

  • Ability to tactfully and courteously meet and assist the public; promote good passenger relations;
maintain a clean, neat appearance and pleasant disposition, and possess the ability to make sound
judgments in a crisis situation.
  • Ability to quickly learn the activities, policies, and procedures related to the Ttransportation

Department.

  • Ability to handle stress and continue to perform all duties and provide service to the public in a
courteous, responsible, and timely manner.
  • Ability to effectively work with other employees, supervisory personnel and the general public.

Educational/Work Experience Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must have valid Washington driver’s license and state required automobile insurance.
  • Must successfully pass A DOT physical examination as required for CDL and overall driving fitness.
  • Must have a minimum of five years licensed driving experience.
  • Must have no moving traffic violations in the past three (3) years AND no involvement in any at-fault
accidents within the past five years as evidence by a current driving abstract. Abstract dated no more
than one month prior to hire date must be provided by applicant.
  • Must have a current valid Washington State Driver’s License. If required for routed service, must be
capable of obtaining the required Commercial Driver’s License with proper endorsements.


Other Requirements: This is a Safety Sensitive

  • Employment is contingent upon successfully completing and passing a Federal Transportation
Administration Pre-Employment Drug Screen. Safety Sensitive employees will be required to submit to
random drug/alcohol testing as well as for cause, post-accident, and follow-up testing as mandated by
US Department of Transportation FTA 49 CFR Part 655. Refusal to submit to drug and alcohol testing
will be treated as a positive test result(s) and considered grounds for disciplinary action, up to and
including termination of employment.
  • Employment is further contingent on successfully passing a Washington State Patrol Background Check
and/or National Background Check, Reference Checks and other required documents.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Telephone or other reliable communication device, such as a cell phone or pager.
  • Accurate time piece (watch, etc.) carried at all times while on duty.
  • Proof of Personal Vehicle Insurance.
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment DOT physical examination and repeat every 2 years thereafter

or sooner if specified by physician.
Working Conditions/Physical Environment

  • Ability to walk, climb, stand, kneel, stoop, bend, reach, push, pull, and grasp.
  • Ability to communicate with passengers and dispatchers.
  • Ability to listen for emergency sirens, bus malfunctions, passenger communications, and radio
communications.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds to assist passengers with bags or packages.
  • Ability to partial lift/slide of wheelchair on the bus (up to 115 lbs. of force).
  • Ability to maneuver passengers in manual wheelchairs to/from the bus on all surface terrains including
ramps, walkways and driveways.
  • Ability to work varying shifts, hours and days, including weekends and holidays as needed. Shifts vary in
length and may be assigned to best fit the needs of the company.
