Job Summary
The DNR is seeking to fill a seasonal, part-time (80%) Buildings & Grounds Worker position at Scenic State Park. Days and hours of work will vary and includes evenings, weekends, and holidays. Anticipated season dates are April 19th through October 10th, each year.
This position performs maintenance, cleaning, and security tasks at Scenic State Park and its associated State Forest Campgrounds so that natural resources are preserved and facilities are adequately maintained for the safety and enjoyment of visitors. This position also supports Button Box, Thistledew, Bear Lake, Togo Horse Camp, Owen Lake, Lost Lake, and Larson Lake Forest Recreation Areas.
Responsibilities include:
- Clean and maintain perk facilities so that the safety and enjoyment of the public is maximized.
- Accomplish various grounds keeping duties as directed by supervisors to keep park and forest grounds neat, safe, and presentable.
- Provide information to visitors so that they are aware of the facilities, park activities, rules and regulations, and local points of interest.
- Perform security-related duties to protect park resources and visitors by enforcing park rules, regulations, and policies as directed by the division and supervisors.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to effectively communicate with the public and other employees.
- Ability to operate or be certified/trained to operate toolcat, heavy equipment, snow blower, ATV, chain saw, tree planter, stump remover, and lawn mower.
- Ability to use small hand tools and other equipment and tools sufficient to perform assigned duties correctly and safely.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions on labels, in instruction manuals, and procedures sufficient to use materials/chemicals correctly and safely.
- Ability to operate a phone, two way radio, computer, and other office equipment.
- Ability and willingness to work alone at night in remote areas of the park.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience performing routine maintenance and repair of small engines, vehicles, and other equipment and tools.
- Work experience cleaning, maintaining, and/or repairing buildings.
- Work experience with grounds maintenance.
- Knowledge of park rules, policies, and facilities.
- Security experience and training.
- First Aid and CPR training.
Physical Requirements
Medium Work - Occasionally lifting articles such as 50 pound bags of feed maximum and frequently lifting and/or carrying objects such as heavy tools and file boxes. This job may require walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
Additional Requirements
This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver’s License with a clear driving record.
