JOB TITLE: Building and Grounds Assistant/Part-Time PAY LEVEL: 4
CLASSIFICATION: Building Services PART-TIME _X
DEPARTMENT: Operations NON-EXEMPT**
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Building and Grounds Coordinator
SUMMARY STATEMENT: Assist in courier service, loading and unloading of materials and emergency clean ups.
Assist the Building and Grounds Coordinator with maintaining Library buildings and grounds at both locations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Set up, arrange and remove tables, chairs, ladders, etc. to prepare facilities for events.
Participate in van courier delivery between Library buildings.
Responsible for transporting “Friends” materials from one Library building to the other.
Run errands for Library staff as directed.
Report Library vehicle(s) problems or concerns.
Deliver materials to other locations as designated.
Assist in the maintenance of Library landscaping.
Empty the material return drop boxes.
Move containers of library materials to the dock for the courier service.
Assist with loading and unloading of materials at the dock.
Remove snow and de-ice sidewalks as needed.
Move furniture and equipment as needed.
Assist with room set ups for programming needs.
Execute opening and closing procedures successfully.
Perform emergency cleaning tasks (leaks, spills, vomit, etc.)
Respond to off-duty emergencies as needed.
Participate in rotating on call schedule.
Other duties as assigned.
*QUALIFICATIONS:

High school education or equivalent.
Ability to perform tasks involved in the position.
Ability to operate all equipment and tools necessary to perform job duties.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds of materials.
Ability to relate to Library patrons of all ages in a positive, patient, and effective manner.
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with co-workers.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to communicate effectively on radio system.
Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
Ability to work a variety of hours, including evenings and weekends.
Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision.
Ability to use the Library’s computer maintenance management system software.
Have valid driver’s license in good standing.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed in a public environment with moderate exposure to health or safety hazards. Substantial
time is spent walking the library building and grounds. This is physical work which requires the following
physical activities: walking, standing, bending, stooping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.
May have to lift up to 30 pounds of library items and furniture or fixtures on occasion. The physical demands
described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the
