Building Engineer Job at City of Commerce City
The Building Engineer performs routine and complex interior and exterior installation, repair and maintenance to City buildings and building systems. This is a journey level position that will include plumbing, mechanical, electrical, HVAC and complex electronic control systems.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Performs other duties as assigned
- Completes work orders, performs routine and complex repairs, maintenance, remodeling, and preventative maintenance to all City buildings and equipment
- Troubleshoots, evaluates and recommends equipment service upgrades
- Monitors computer controls for building systems to maintain a safe and secure environment
- Monitors expenses to control costs of construction and purchases
- Uses discretion with sensitive information
- Work independently without supervision in the normal course of duties
- Performs daily rounds, inspections, and site control evaluations on all City buildings and equipment as part of the daily routine

Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED required. Must have at least five years' experience in the construction trades or related field including at least two years' experience with HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, or electrical systems to include hydraulics, pneumatics, generators and boilers. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. Must possess CFC certificate or ability to obtain within three months of hire and maintain throughout employment. A valid CO driver's license required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of HVAC equipment, boiler operations, circulating pumps, compressors, steam generators, exhaust fans, condenser units, swamp coolers, water softeners, hot water heaters, and other related equipment
- Knowledge of the principles and practices or facility maintenance and safety practices
- Knowledge of diagnostic equipment and computer monitoring and control systems
- Knowledge of City and department policies and procedures
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.77 - $30.96 per hour
