Building Automation & Controls Specialist/Technician Job at Hawaii Energy Systems
Building Automation & Controls Specialist is responsible for execution of the DDC startup, commissioning, client training, and other field work for the assigned projects and will ensure that they are completed accurately, on-time, within the budget, and within the scope of the contract.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field, or related experience.
2. Eight or more years of demonstrated BAS Controls Specialist experience.
3. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Must be able to read and understand standard construction documents: construction plans and specifications, shop drawings, submittals, close-out documentation, etc.
2. Demonstrated proficiency in Distech Controls, Delta Controls, and Alerton DDC lines, including troubleshooting, programming, and user interface development.
3. Proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline.
4. Demonstrated experience in the integration of low voltage building sub-systems using various industry protocols (i.e. BACnet, Modbus, LON, etc.).
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to communicate technical material to a non-technical audience.
6. Proficiency using computers and various programs and software applications such as: Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
7. Ability to exercise initiative, independent judgement and to act resourcefully under varying conditions.
8. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, subordinates, coworkers, customers, other agencies, and the public.
9. Detail oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
10. Able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines under pressure.
11. Valid driver’s license.
12. Hawaii Energy Systems performs a great deal of work with military and government clients that requires background testing and security checks (e.g. DBIDS, RapidGate, etc.). Eligibility to work on military and government projects is a continual condition of employment.
Principal Job Responsibilities
1. Assists Project Managers to develop and maintain the project schedule.
2. Plans and coordinates startup.
3. Develops startup work plans, as necessary.
4. Onsite coordination of installation, answer or get answers to installer questions, resolve any installation issues.
5. During start up:
a. Ensure that work performed complies with state, local and Federal legal requirements, with the highest of ethics, and adheres to Hawaii Energy Systems’ safety standards and policies.
b. Troubleshoot installation, communication, and wiring issues.
c. Collect red-lined shop drawings from installers.
d. Configure and upload Programming and Graphics files to controllers.
e. Test programming and modify as necessary.
f. Test graphics and modify as necessary.
g. Create red-lines of shop drawings.
h. Test and validate programming to ensure it fulfills SOO.
6. DDC system formal testing:
a. Perform and document Functional Performance Testing.
b. Perform and document pre-Performance Verification Testing checklists.
c. Perform and document Performance Verification Testing.
d. Commission and document DDC system.
7. Train end-user per construction specifications.
8. Attend and actively participate in construction meetings, as necessary.
9. As necessary, communicate with the end-user, prime contractor, mechanical contractor, engineers, other contractors, and the government, in person, on the phone, or via email.
10. As necessary, help prepare and approve change orders.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30.00 - $50.00 per hour
