Your Opportunity
You will perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, corrective action, mining, biology, and other environmental programs. You will also write reports, develop plans, and implement steps to move projects toward closure in the most cost effective manner
Your Key Responsibilities
- Conduct botanical surveys, natural community mapping, and ecological impact assessments.
- Applicants should be experienced in field botany (survey methodology, plant identification, taxonomy, and specimen preparation).
- Assist with the coordination of environmental permitting, assessment, and/or compliance work related to various federal and state agency requirements as they pertain to a variety of project types including renewable energy, energy transmission and generation facilities, transportation, and private development projects.
- Assist with the preparation, review, and editing of technical documents, such as environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, and other and technical reports.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary environmental assessments, recording, entering, organizing, and analyzing data.
- Write technical reports for client and regulatory agency review.
- Assist with other biological surveys, including but not limited to biological baseline surveys, migratory bird surveys, pygmy rabbit surveys, and small mammal trapping, as needed.
- Assist with other hydrological surveys, including but not limited to spring, seep, and stream monitoring, as needed.
- Prepare environmental permitting and reporting, conduct and/or lead field work, and participate in existing and/or new projects.
- Conduct large-scale soil assessment and mapping projects.
- Ensure QA/QC and H&S requirements and procedures are identified and followed throughout a project's life cycle.
- Technical work, quality review of reports.
- Field work responsibilities may include GPS surveys, wetland assessments, and natural community mapping; performing and leading project technical work; preparing reports; and preparing environmental permitting to conduct and/or lead field work.
- Coordinating internal project staff and performing project technical work.
- Demonstrate sound application of established practices, standards, and guidelines.
- Responsible for specific objectives and the achievement of significant results.
- May provide staff mentorship and training.
- May review work of seasonal staff.
- Applies technical and business knowledge and methods to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address current and potential project issues.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Identification of Nevada- and Great Basin-specific vegetation to the species-level.
- Skilled in plant identification, demonstrated ability to learn new species and families, familiar with plant families and use of dichotomous keys, able to identify suite of target species.
- Familiarity with regional plant communities (Nevada) and habitat requirements for wildlife desirable.
- Must be comfortable with computers and GPS units.
- Significant travel, including extended overnight travel, is expected for this position.
- Ability to work extended hours in the field.
- Ability to communicate effectively and function as part of a team.
- Strong interest in ecosystems, natural resource conservation, and the outdoors.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems using critical thinking and practical problem solving, complete field work with consideration to their own and the team's safety, and a good sense of direction.
- Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training, leads by example, and applies these policies and procedures as appropriate to their work.
- Solid skills in technical writing.
- Observing and developing skills in communications and technical information exchange with clients, engineers and scientists, government regulators and agencies, and academia, as well as non-technical communication to the public.
- Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.
- At least two years of experience successfully executing technical aspects of small to medium projects focused in botany.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, or related field.
- Minimum 3 - 4 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education (e.g., advanced degree) and experience in wetlands, botany, or soil science.
- Some task management experience is preferred.
Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
