The Plant Manager will oversee all daily operations of the plant from production and manufacturing to ensuring policies and procedures are followed. He will develop processes that will maximize stewardship, safety, quality and productivity. It is the duty of the Plant Manager to communicate with Corporate to establish bilateral goals enhancing the production of the plant; achieving environmental and compliance mandates as well as growing the careers of its various employees.

- Manages and directs a team of department plant leaders (e.g. Operations, Shipping, Environment Health and Safety, Administration, etc.) to ensure day to day tasks and operations are successful, efficient and are completed based off standard protocols. This includes but is not limited to driving the following functions/concepts throughout the plant:
- Management and Staff Development
- Daily, monthly, annual performance review and monitoring of direct reports
- Skill and career development and growth of direct reports as well as providing insight into the career progression development of front line staff/supervisors within plant departments
- Develop and deliver a variety of training exercises to meet the changing demands of a dynamic plant environment
- Authority on staffing decisions including recruiting, salary planning, and disciplinary action
- Business Acumen
- Monitor the scope of the plant's performance as it contributes to the overall health of the business
- Understand and capitalize on the current business environment impact to protect the plant from larger loss; reduce unnecessary risk; promote production and increase revenue where possible
- Communication
- Using various media forms to educate, inform, and unify employees in support of collective goals, strategies, policies and procedures within the plant
- Develop clear and compelling messages that help employees understand change; promote safety; foster innovation with positive, proactive acceptance and action
- Leadership of Groups
- Unite different departments to work collectively for the betterment of the entire plant
- Provide relevant, progressive strategies across the plant to guides each group toward the plant's short and long-term goals
- Negotiation
- Participate in various vendor contract negotiations for all plant project based work
- Lead and finalize all plant direct third party vendor contracts
- May need to collaborate with labor relation groups (i.e. union) to reach mutual goals if applicable
- Project Management
- Provide oversight and drive to timely completion multiple inter/intra-department projects
- Ensure the appropriate delegation of management and tasks in achieving plant success
- Planning and Preparedness
- Establish hierarchy; delegate tasks/projects; manage to fruition the coordination of plant activities throughout the plant
- Fiscal oversight and accountability
- Develop the plant's overall budget expenses
- Evaluate and hold accountable responsible parties for positive and negative budgetary expenditures
- Production and Process
- Continually hold plant management accountable to innovative thinking; process efficiency evaluation; and proactive planning to ensure perpetual efficiency in carbon black production
- Ensure all internal plant departments communicate clearly and timely with customers, corporate logistics teams, and other entities regarding processing volume as well as delivery and transit expectations
- Audit and Compliance
- Oversee the completion of all required audits by relevant department leaders (e.g. Environment Health and Safety, financial, etc.)
- Lead initiatives to hold the plant to all regulatory compliance mandates and edicts
- Customer Relations
- Build meaningful relations with all customers through the promotion of communications and the delivery of exceptional products
- Administrative
- Produce various corporate or compliance related reports on an ad hoc daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis
- Ensure the uniform use and appropriate application of all plant applications and interfaces especially those with production, staffing and payroll impact
- Development and establishment of overall plant processes and procedures that:
- Push all departments to maximum efficiency and production
- Mitigate risk and increase reward throughout the plant
- Promote health work life balance and positive employee experiences
- May be asked to perform ad hoc duties as needed by supervisor or corporate
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Mechanical/Chemical Engineering or related discipline
- 5+ years experience as a manufacturing plant manager or 8+ years of plant operations experience
- Strong team building and people management skills
- Sound judgement making and analytical thinking skills
- Ability to lead teams and drive project management
- Proven progressive managerial experience of various employee levels (e.g. non-exempt, managerial, senior management roles)
- Functional knowledge of business management disciplines including budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, staffing and development.
- Exceptional aptitude for leading root cause analysis investigations; equipment operation troubleshooting; and overall process improvement exercises
- Proficient using various Microsoft Office products
- Carbon black manufacturing experience and or process knowledge
- Relevant operational and environmental regulatory requirements knowledge
- 2-3 years’ experience working with unions including active participation in the negotiation process
