Pay Range: Starting at $19.00 per hour, depending on experience

Position Summary:

Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Black Achievers Program Director, the program staff will support the daily operations of programming including leading school clubs, managing a caseload of students, and student recruitment. The program staff is also responsible for working with staff to develop and implement quality programming to ensure the success of the program.

Essential Functions:

  • Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
  • Execute program club meetings at assigned schools
  • Contact students for one-on-one meetings and coordinate schedules
  • Manage relationships with BA student officers
  • Engage student officers in student recruitment, marketing, and club activities for schools assigned
  • Schedule and meet with students who are involved in club programming
  • Represent the YMCA programs in the community by attending and hosting booths at schools for open houses, club fairs and community outreach events to strengthen the program’s presence and collaborative partnerships in the community”
  • Participate in field trips, college tours, and career exploration tours
  • Maintain program tracking systems on program database internally
  • Help prepare materials for club meetings and events
  • Aid in the preparation of communication and marketing materials
  • Support communication with club sponsors
  • Attend all necessary staff meetings with supervisor and YCAP team
  • Engage and participate in program fundraising efforts and other activities as needed

Minimum Requirements

An enthusiastic personality with the desire to serve members, volunteers, guests, participants and staff to create a culture of service within our programs

Strong interpersonal, communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community

  • Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software programs, as well as the ability to use most office equipment is required
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent required, BA/BS preferred
  • Experience in youth work preferred/ 2 to 3 years program experience and relevant experience in supervision and administration preferred

Certifications Required:

  • Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation training
  • Within 30 days of hire: CPR/ First Aid/ AED
  • Must maintain annual training requirements
