DPL’s Early Learning Department (ELD) is a part of the Youth Services team which supports and incorporates the library’s
mission, vision, and values in action
throughout all programs and services for young people. We are guided by the outcomes and goals laid out in the
Youth Services 3-Year Outlook
. ELD is an outreach-based department, working in partnership with community organizations, schools, and other City agencies to help children from birth through five develop early learning skills and thrive. We strive to provide programs, services, and early development information to families and adults that work with young children to support healthy early development.
DPL is seeking a creative, team-oriented and motivated Birth to Three Program Administrator to join our Early Learning Department in support of programs and services for babies, toddlers, their families, and the adults that support them across Denver’s communities. In this position, you will prioritize equitable access to services and resources, as well as provide and coordinate support for services to this population, including: the LENA Start program, outreach, community partnerships, and support for in-branch services. This will be done in collaboration with other staff in the Early Learning Department, community partners, other DPL departments, and branch library staff.
More specifically, you will:

Continue to grow a robust outreach program within the Early Learning Department to reach families with infants and toddlers.

Work closely and collaboratively with community partners, parents, and caregivers to help them understand early child development and support building critical early learning skills.

Provide and support the LENA Start Program: recruit and support program participants (parents of children from birth to three years old), provide weekly classes to parents to support their children’s language development, help families with the LENA technology, and report on the program.

Develop appropriate programs for families in addition to LENA Start, both inside DPL locations and in outreach settings.

Connect with community partners such as schools, child care settings, informal care networks, and City of Denver partner agencies to reach parents with children from birth to three.

Support the Early Learning Department with outreach to parents, families, and early childhood professionals.

Support library staff in early learning efforts.
About You
Our ideal candidate has a passion for serving infants, toddlers, and their families in the Denver community, an interest in early child development, and the ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds in engaging, empathetic, and strengths-based ways.
You also have:

Spanish language fluency.

Knowledge of early child development.

Skill in public speaking and sharing information effectively with groups of adults and children in both English and Spanish.

Ability to build and maintain relationships with community organizations and other City agencies.

Ability to work independently and within a team to creatively solve problems in a positive manner.

Positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with people.

Ability to use workplace technology including email, internet, databases, social media and other software.

The Birth to Three Program Administrator’s work will vary day-to-day. Typical tasks include providing programming to babies, toddlers, and adults; working with ELD colleagues to meet customer needs; meeting and working with partners across the early childhood ecosystem; supporting DPL staff in providing programs and services for babies and toddlers; managing a budget. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and will include evening and weekend hours.

There is no free parking for staff at the Central Library and staff who drive to work must make their own parking arrangements. Discounted RTD (bus, light rail) passes are available to staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education requirement: Bachelor’s Degree (additional appropriate experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirement)
Experience Requirement: Two years experience providing services to children and their caregivers in a variety of settings.
Additional qualifications: A valid Colorado license and a vehicle. Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.
