Scope of Position:
The Washington Heights Workforce1 Career Center offers a set of services customized to meet the needs of foreign and native-born New Yorkers ages 18 and up. Our center is unique in the way we help clients pursue training opportunities, connect to employment and develop valuable skills to improve job candidacy while navigating public benefits. The Training Advisor provides support and assistance to program participants in all areas related to preparing, enrolling and completing training programs, as well as gaining and/or retaining employment, career advancement and additional support.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  • Source for and screen candidates for ongoing training programs in Healthcare and Information Technology and other courses as required
  • Build and coordinate a pipeline of qualified jobseekers through recruitment events, reengagement of Individual Training Grant customers, Community Based Organization referrals, walk-in traffic and direct advertising
  • Work with the leadership team to plan, implement and track recruitment and enrollment process to meet the specific needs of training provider
  • Conduct intake and phone screenings to determine eligibility and collect documents required for program participation
  • Identify suitability for and/or barriers to employment/training
  • Maintain a pipeline of candidates per industry
  • Initiate a high level of engagement and reengagement of clients via phone and email
  • Meet all enrollment and completion numbers as assigned, and share outcomes with Director
  • Share program updates and next steps with NYC Department of Small Business Services
  • Meet weekly with client and respond to asks for information and engagement
  • Coordinate and provide direct case management services to include assisting the jobseeker to: develop long- and short-term employment goals, create an Individual Employment Plan (IEP), and coordinate support and related services with other providers
  • Track the jobseeker’s progress toward goals and modify the IEP as necessary
  • Provide career guidance to assist jobseekers in making and carrying out career decisions for success in the labor market
  • Provide consistent, comprehensive career advisement to facilitate an employment plan utilizing individualized assessment of work skills and personal development needs
  • Provide current labor market information and related workforce and economic development information to jobseekers and employers
  • Guide jobseeker to proper channels for work supports and other intensive assistance
  • Monitor performance and progress of jobseeker
  • Assist in addressing barriers that may impede participation and/or performance in programs
  • Provide follow-up activities according to program guidelines
  • Maintain working relationships with community-based organizations, training providers, and other resources to address participant barriers
  • Oversee jobseeker’s program participation providing career counseling, job coaching and career mentoring that ensures sustained employment
  • Document all participant contacts and activities to include case notes and post-placement follow up contacts
  • Maintain electronic database of clients and track all contacts with participants
  • Maintain database as specified by client
  • Share updates and feedback with client regarding enrollment progress and status
  • When training programs are not in session/active support other Center teams including Recruitment, Community Partner and Career Advisors.
  • Support Career Advisement as a back up team member
  • Perform related work and duties as required
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and document all aspects of services provided
  • Demonstrated communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills
  • Ability to maintain flexibility as needs of contract or client require
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and experience working with training providers, schools and employers
  • At least three years of professional experience in recruiting, account management or education
  • Instructional experience highly desired
  • Working knowledge of MS Office
  • Bilingual, English/Spanish
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
