POSITION SUMMARY:

The Behavior Therapy Technician provides clinical oversight, technical assistance and skill development to program staff regarding all aspects of behavior support services. This position works collaboratively with staff and program supervisors, in the delivery of staff training, crisis intervention and general habilitative and behavioral services to individuals supported across assigned programs in residential and /or day services. Under the supervision of a Community Supervisor is responsible for supporting DSPs and/or Community Specialists to implement habilitative programs/services, as well as providing care to individuals. The Behavioral Support Technician as part of a team is responsible for the providing the required level of supervision to individuals and groups.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s Degree required; major in Special Education, Psychology or a related Human Services field preferred

Minimum Experience:

  • 3 years of pertinent experience, working directly with individuals who have developmental disabilities,

including devising, implementing and monitoring behavior support plans

  • Experience implementing FBA's and behavior support plans required with individuals diagnosed with
  • Experience providing training and coaching to residential and/or day program staff in the

implementation of general strategies and individualized programs using principles of ABA and Special Ed

techniques, i.e. smart board, alternative systems of communication, sensory diet, etc.

  • Preferred: knowledge of PBIS

Required Certification/Registration: Certified as or pursuing BCaBA preferred.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supports the implementation of behavioral support services across adult residential and/or day services.
  • Assists Behavioral Support Specialists in completing individual functional behavioral assessments and re-assessments, interpreting results and designing ethical and effective interventions that promote skill building and functional behavior.
  • Supports the implementation of behavior support plans, behavior intervention plans, program plans (goals, on-going services and special needs); including the completion of all required documentation.
  • Monitors individual progress on an on-going basis.
  • Provides habilitative supports directly to individuals in Residential/Day Services and facilitates community activities; completes service delivery documentation.
  • Supports DSPs and/or Community Specialists in providing habilitation supports and required level of supervision in small group settings or individually to people in varied environments, including the home, the community and day programs.
  • Supports DSPs and/or Community Specialists in facilitating community involvement for individuals supported, including provision of required level of supervision.

  • Provides training and direct supervision to staff members as they implement habilitative, behavior support and behavior intervention plans which enable individuals to develop skills in the least restrictive environment.
  • Identifies, develops and delivers training to staff at all levels, in areas related to behavior management, positive behavior intervention supports and applied behavior analysis.
  • Works with staff members on environmental management, designing and implementing program curriculum in a Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports framework.
  • Manages and addresses challenging behavior as it occurs, implementing reactive strategies that meet safeguards and follow related regulation. Implements proactive strategies to address all types of behavior, and emphasizes the development of skills that will satisfy the function in an adaptive manner.
  • Participates in inter-disciplinary team meetings as appropriate.
  • Takes the lead in addressing behavioral crisis as they occur within the program as well as addressing the training needs of staff across services.
  • Assures that all measures for safety and well-being are maintained at highest level.
  • Prepares concise written reports, including incident reports, and individuals’ progress notes.
  • Responds to crisis situations and medical emergencies, including accidents, by taking quick and decisive action. Communicates appropriately with RNs and managers. Summons police, fire, ambulance, or other emergency personnel if situation warrants
  • Advocates for individuals and supports them in exercising their rights by honoring their choices, preferences, abilities and opinions. This includes working in partnership with individual’s support networks to assist them in their efforts to develop and maintain relationships with family and friends, live a healthy lifestyle, lead self-directed lives, and achieve their hopes and dreams.
  • Obtain certification as a SCIP instructor and provide training and support to agency staff in the implementation of such techniques as required by regulation and/or a person’s behavior support plan.
  • Communicates frequently with supervisors from Behavior Support, Residential and Community Services programs.
  • Attends and participates in required staff training programs within required timeframes, per agency and regulatory requirements.
  • Assists with personal care of persons receiving supports as needed.
  • Operates agency vehicles as needed.
