SALARY RANGE: Hourly rate: $19-$21 plus percentage of Service Charge
REPORTS TO: Clubhouse Manager
The San Francisco Yacht Club (SFYC) is a private club located in beautiful Belvedere, California and is the oldest yacht club on the west coast. SFYC has earned recognition as one of the leading yacht clubs in the country, hosting local, national and international regattas. In addition to Regattas, throughout the year, SFYC hosts numerous private and Club events for the members and their guests. Adjacent our main clubhouse and large deck overlooking the harbor, we have recently opened our new event space, the Cove House, that can accommodate parties of 120 in the main room and more intimate groups in any of the smaller side rooms. This allows us to host events without impacting the members' experience in our Clubhouse ala carte dining room.

General Summary
The Banquet Captain leads set-up, execution and break down of events and will also be scheduled as Dining Room Captain as needed. Lead by example with positivity, regardless of the scenario and actively direct and support all assigned staff. Be visible to members/clients during hours of operation.
Banquet Captain Job Summary: Responsible for the execution of private banquet, club events and regatta receptions as noted on Banquet Event Orders. Oversees all banquet staff ensuring all assigned events properly prepared, executed and cleaned.

  • Works with Catering Manager, Clubhouse Manager and Chef to meet and exceed member/hosts expectations of all events.
  • Attends and reviews details of Banquet Event Orders at weekly meeting.
  • Assists in scheduling of all FOH staff and venue set-up based upon anticipated covers and/or event needs.
  • Transmits information to service staff regarding private events.
  • Responsible for service staff job assignments and floor plan details.
  • Works in conjunction with the Clubhouse Manager on banquet supply inventory (i.e., Silverware, votives, glassware, etc.).
  • Responsible for accurate billing of events.
  • Receives member/host concerns and complaints with grace and strives to provide solutions to achieve member satisfaction in a professional and timely manner.
  • Promotes a positive work environment and a positive team atmosphere with all staff and management.
  • Follows and role models all club and catered event service standards.
  • Assures that all side work is accomplished, and all cleaning of equipment and storage areas is complete before closing venues for the day.
  • All other duties within your respective department as assigned by the Catering and Events

Dining Room Captain Job Summary

  • In absence of scheduled events or due to needs of the Club, the Banquet Captain will be scheduled as Dining Room Captain, Host or Server.
  • Carefully supervises all FOH staff to help ensure proper service that exceeds member expectations.
  • Confirms all FOH staff are properly uniformed.
  • Receives and handles complaints concerning food, beverages or service with grace and strives to provide solutions to achieve member satisfaction in a professional and timely manner.
  • Serves as liaison between the dining room and kitchen staff.
  • Assures that all side work is accomplished, and all cleaning of equipment and storage areas is complete before closing venues for the day.
  • Implements and supports all Club dining initiatives and programs.
  • Teams with other Club departments to ensure exemplary customer service and adherence to policies and procedures.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Ideal candidate will have extensive background in event operations preferably including Banquet Captain experience.
  • Highly organized shows maturity and uses good judgment.
  • Capable of working unsupervised.
  • Maintains a professional appearance appropriate to position and as per Club policy.
  • Maintain a safe, friendly and professional work environment.
  • Experience with Club POS systems a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift at 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for 8+ hours and/or walk continuously to perform essential job functions throughout shift, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Must be able to bend, climb, balance, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl without hindrance.
  • While performing this job, employee will be exposed to sunlight, heat, wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Ability to climb on step stool or ladder to complete elements of the job or facilitate maintenance issues.
