LOCATION: Rochester, NY or Story City, IA or Deforest/Columbus, WI plant locations.

SUMMARY: Provide Automation Project Management and Engineering duties as assigned by Senior Engineer. Responsible for strategic vision for automation companywide and overseeing new equipment installations as well as modifications to existing equipment as necessary for the advancement of productivity and safety. Provide advanced troubleshooting and assistance to address equipment problems that effect productivity of the manufacturing group. Be involved with process improvements providing input in production problem solving.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

SAFETY

  • Adhere to all company safety guidelines, ensures facility follows all applicable safety regulations. Participate in training, embrace concepts of and actively practice the STOP Safety Program fundamentals to aid American Packaging Corporation’s efforts to achieve a zero-accident rate.
  • Respond to employee safety concerns and continuously improve the safety of equipment and processes in the facilities
  • Attend and participate in all safety, ergonomics and OSHA compliance committee meetings and activities.

ENVIRONMENTAL

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable environmental permits and regulations

ENGINEERING PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Develop, Implement, and maintain short- and long-term strategic vision for automation, and promote best practices and consistency in automation across the plants
  • Review and implement new and emerging technologies to improve safety and productivity through automation
  • Initiate, evaluate, coordinate, and track the entire CER (Capital Expenditure Request) process including the recommendation, design, installation and cost management processes for building and equipment expansions/ improvements.
  • Prepare all equipment specification paperwork and create and monitor all machine installation/modification completion schedules and budgets
  • Assist in long range Capital Planning across all plants
  • Design, install and startup new equipment, equipment modifications, and process improvements corporation wide
  • Manage OEMs and outside contractors on large scale projects
  • Negotiate price and purchase equipment and services
  • Manage various stages of projects including but not limited to fabrication, assembly and installation of apparatus and machinery

PRODUCTION CONTINUITY / SUPPORT

  • Analyze and rectify manufacturing equipment and process related problems.
  • Familiar with various types of PLC and motion control systems such as drives, actuators and motors (some include Indramat, Eurotherm, Siemens, ABB, Hitachi and Reliance)
  • Provide engineering assistance in plant manufacturing improvement activities such as waste reduction, line speed, operational efficiency, and quality
  • Interface with Divisional staff to ensure an operational, safe, and cost-effective manufacturing operation.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; and five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Plant automation / AGV / AMR experience required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

TRAVEL

This job requires the ability to travel 60% of the time, or more, and work at various plants for extended periods of time.
