Automation Specialist or Engineer
Hartman & Hartman provides civil, mechanical, electrical, and automation services to clients spread throughout various industries.
The Automation Specialist supports the company’s efforts by performing a diverse set of duties for projects requiring instrumentation and industrial control expertise.
Responsibilities
- Attend job site visits for initial discovery phase of potential projects.
- Work with estimation team to provide control system details for estimates.
- Interpret P&ID’s, wiring diagrams, functional descriptions, specifications, and equipment manuals to develop control requirements.
- Interface with the electrical design team by collaborating on control solutions and performing design and drawing review.
- Provide system design support by researching and specifying controllers, sensors, and control components.
- Develop programs and configurations for PLC, OIT, RTU, and SCADA systems.
- Document control system information by creating IO lists, functional descriptions, and operation manuals.
- Perform commissioning, startup, and field service of control systems.
- Provide mentorship to entry-level automation specialists and automation technicians.
- Interface with company and client project managers and technical representatives.
- Such other duties as assigned.
General Requirements
- Working environment – mix of office, shop, and customer site locations. Onsite locations may include working outside. Some sites include equipment that processes flammable or hazardous substances.
- Physical demands – traversing industrial stairs, walkways, and ladders. Sites that are outside may require occasional walking on irregular surfaces such as mud, snow, and gravel.
- Travel – local travel to customer sites is common, and overnight travel is estimated to be 4-6 weeks per year.
- Working hours – Daylight 8 hour, 5 day schedule. Overtime is necessary on occasion, depending on company workload and client schedules, and is common during projects’ startup phases.
- Education – 2 to 4-year engineering or technical degree, or equivalent experience.
- Experience – 4 or more years in the industrial control field.
