Trussville Gas and Water provides water and gas service to 8 communities in Central Alabama.
Our gas coverage area includes parts of Argo, Birmingham, Center Point, Clay, Irondale,
Margaret, Pinson and Trussville.

We are recruiting for an Atmospheric Corrosion Technician / Meter Reader. This individual performs a variety of natural gas service duties to include customer service-related field tasks as well as skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the gas distribution systems.

Atmospheric Corrosion Technician / Meter Reader

Responsible for inspection of external corrosion, surface preparation, painting gas meters/ high-pressure regulators and meter reading.

WHAT ARE THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION?

• Performs basic tasks including using hand tools, corrosion inspections, meter paints, reading meters (manually and electronically).
• Paint meters neatly by hand using the approved paint.
• Document work with electronic form from a tablet or smart device.
• Report unusual conditions such as gas odors or meter damage, following normal safety protocols. Take initiative to report any observed conditions that seem unsafe or unusual.
• Identifies abnormal operating conditions, takes appropriate actions and performs miscellaneous inspections as required.
• Records gas consumption data by electronic remote meter reading device.
• Other duties as required or requested.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIRED SKILLS FOR THIS ROLE?

• Minimum High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle and a clean driving record required.
• Complete computer-based training and performance evaluations for operator qualifications (OQ).

Physical Demands/Work Conditions

• Position is Safety Sensitive and subject to appropriate drug and alcohol testing as prescribed by the Federal Register 49 CFR-Section 199.

• Current and ability to maintain a valid Alabama Driver License. May be required to drive a motor vehicle for up to 8 hours a day.
• Frequently - stand; walk; sit; drive; work on a computer; and manipulate objects including small hand tools with both hands.
• Frequently - push; pull; bend; stoop; squat; climb; twist; kneel; crawl; reach above shoulder level; and use both hands for simple and power grasping.
• Continuously lift to 10 lbs. and frequently lift between 10-50 lbs.
• Work outdoors on a continuous basis.
• Exposure to weather conditions to include extreme temperatures; dust, fumes, gases, chemicals, vibrations, etc.
• Walking on uneven ground and driving in all weather conditions.
