This position is responsible and accountable for providing University wide leadership for all financial functions, including supervision of financial planning, accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, external audit, debt issuance, endowment management, treasury, and student receivables.
The AVP reports to the Vice President for Business Affairs/Chief Financial Officer (CFO) as do the Assistant Vice President for Facilities Operations, Assistant Vice President for Planning, Design, and Construction, Director of Conferences and Events, and the Risk Manager. Reporting to the incumbent are the Controller, the Director of Budget and Financial Planning, and the Bursar.

Principal Accountabilities
1. Responsible for the effective management of all short and long-term financial planning and the University’s annual operating and capital budgets, including financial modeling, forecasting, trend analysis, and variance monitoring.
2. Oversee the accuracy and the timeliness of all financial reporting, including management of the University’s accounting and related systems, external audit supervision, financial statement preparation, tax reporting, and the design of effective monthly internal and Board of Trustee management reports.
3. Oversee the management of all audit functions, including University-wide compliance with all federal accounting guidelines (FASB, GAAP, IRS, A-21, etc), internal management policies, risk assessment, audit committee reporting, and minimizing the institution’s risk profile thru the effective management of the University’s insurance policies.
4. Responsible for the effective management of all treasury functions, including all banking relationships, endowment management, student receivable management, and the University’s capital structure.
5. Assist the CFO in the preparation of finance related board materials. Present as needed at select board committee meetings (Finance/Investment Committee and Audit and Risk Management Committee).
6. Provide effective leadership and continuity in the acquisition, supervision, development and retention of well-qualified, motivated and productive staff, ensuring that hiring and supervisory practices are in compliance with the spirit and intent of EEO/AA and other policies contained within the University’s employee and policy manuals.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
This position is served best by an individual with a bachelor’s degree, and extensive background in higher education finance. CPA and/or MBA preferred. Demonstrated experience in short and long-term financial planning, accounting, financial systems implementation, and treasury and debt management is required. Five to seven years successful experience directing and supervising professional and support personnel is critical. Exceptional interpersonal skills and diplomacy are required to successfully interact with various University constituencies including the Board of Trustees, senior University executives and individuals from various University Departments.
