Job Summary:
Drake University is excited to launch its search for an Associate Provost to serve as the strategic and operational leader of Drake Online. The Associate Provost will be empowered to create a vision to move Drake University to the next phase in distance learning. We are looking for an enthusiastic collaborator and effective communicator to build upon a solid existing program.
Reporting to the Provost, the Associate Provost serves in a pivotal role in determining the future direction of online education at Drake University. Supervising the Drake Online team and collaborating with campus partners, they serve in a leadership role that has a significant impact on Drake's mission.
In close collaboration with academic units, admissions, and others, the Associate Provost is empowered to envision, craft, and execute a new strategic plan for Drake Online, to ensure that an integrated and effective strategy is guiding online education initiatives across the institution.
The Associate Provost will assure Drake Online provides high quality services to academic units delivering online programs and courses to their students. This role will lead coordination of efforts between the Provost’s Office and other units for planning, development, assessment, and delivery of existing online programs and evaluating potential future expansions of online course and degree offerings. In this role, the Associate Provost will prepare a variety of correspondence, memoranda, and administrative reports; track, assess, and retain data related to the programs, enrollment, retention, and student satisfaction.
The Associate Provost will facilitate alignment of internal and external resources to provide exceptional online education support services and professional education to academic units, faculty, and staff. The Associate Provost will also lead in the development of effective practices, frameworks, and policies to support excellence across Drake University's online offerings.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate degree and five (5) years of experience leading teams in a university or business setting related to online program management, instructional design, learning technologies, online program marketing, or related fields
- Ability to nurture student and client-centered, inclusive, high-performance team cultures
- Evidence-based, data-informed decision-making abilities combined with strategic visioning and analytical skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills that easily translate for academic and community audiences
- Deep knowledge of online learning delivery systems/platforms, learning management systems, and learning analytics software
Preferred Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate or terminal graduate degree in a relevant field
- Knowledge of learning theories, adolescent/adult education, instructional design, outcomes-based assessment in online higher education, and best practices in online program design and delivery
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, codes, and/or accreditation standards for online programs
- Experience in data analytics.
- Interest in and willingness to use data in formative evaluation to support student engagement, decision-making, and strategic planning
Job Duties
35% - Manage the relationship with the outsourced marketing and enrollment partner; provide strategic guidance that improves the partnership performance - (Essential)
35% - Work closely and collaboratively with colleges and schools to develop strategic future vision, and direct operations of online curriculum and student experience - (Essential)
25% - Manage and maximize unit budget; provide direct line management to instructional designers and instructional technologists (both in-house and outsourced); manage online student support staff and supporting functions across the institution to ensure an outstanding student experience - (Essential)
5% - Serve as an important member of the Provost's leadership team; serve on the Provost's Council, standing committees, and ad hoc committees, as directed; perform other duties, as assigned - (Essential)
For faculty positions, selection will depend on the receipt of recommendation confirming the candidate's scholarly achievements and teaching abilities and/or on the candidate's satisfactory passing of a teaching demonstration if selected for an on-campus interview. For staff positions, selection will depend upon careful review of each applicant’s references, education, and, if applicable, experience.
