Associate Executive Director Job at YMCA
The Associate Executive Director is responsible for day-to-day branch management and operation. The Associate Executive Director oversees the operation of the branches in accordance with policies, procedures, and standards established by the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Board of Directors and the Branch Board. This position is responsible for operating high quality programs and services to compliment an exceptional membership experience. This position may involve early morning, evening, weekend, and on-call responsibilities.
The Mary Free Bed YMCA is a revolutionary health and wellness facility designed with everyone in mind, offering unique and accessible spaces that benefit the entire community through its focus on Universal Design. The 36-acre, LEED certified campus is home to a wide range of fully accessible spaces and amenities. The branch was built in 2015 has a budget size of $5 million, a membership base of 5,500, and a facility size of 118,000 square feet.
COMPENSATION
$56,000-$70,000 annually, Full Time, Salary Exempt

Bachelor’s degree (BA) from four-year college or university, Master’s degree preferred; three to five years of supervision and/or YMCA Senior Program Director experience, program development, budget management, fundraising, and community collaboration experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. YMCA or Not-for-Profit Management experience preferred. Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. Working knowledge of computers and experience with a variety of software applications.
Human Resource Management
- Manages full and part time employees and supervises their overall direction, coordination and evaluation.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Association’s policies and applicable laws
- Sets goals and objectives for staff under their supervision; provides staff training as necessary
- Conducts annual performance reviews and recommends salary adjustments
- Supports the Association in recruitment of diverse staff and volunteers
- Recruits, Interviews, hires, and trains staff in accordance with established Association policies; plans, assigns, and directs work; rewards and disciplines staff; addresses complaints and resolves problems
Program Development
- Manages and monitors program growth and quality
- Guides the visioning process of program development and provides the leadership that will encourage the development of new programs
- Maintains relationships and visibility within the community including relationships with local school districts and community organizations
- Develops and maintains best-in-class programming
- Establishes new program activities, increases participation, and expands programming within the community in accordance with Association/Branch strategic and operating plans
- Engages volunteers and supports their development
- Uses the Y Voice to effectively tell the YMCA story
Fiscal Management
- Manages and monitors the operating budgets and annual budget development
- Assists staff in identifying and meeting all development needs with action plans built into the next fiscal year budget
- Monitors monthly budget and year-end forecasting
- Operates program areas within directives and policies of the Association
- Maintains systems of financial control including revenues, expenses, and inventories
Financial Development
- Establishes sufficient revenue to provide services consistent with established goals
- Actively participates in and supports the goals of the annual campaign through building relationships, engaging volunteers, and carrying out other assigned fund raising duties
- Provides leadership and support to volunteer committees as assigned. Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the community
Facility Management
- Monitors and assists in the maintenance of clean and sanitary programs environments; and meets all state and local licensing requirements where applicable
- Knows and administers the appropriate EAP (Emergency Action Plan) for any situation, including first aid or CPR, work-related employee injuries, etc.
Performs any other functions deemed to be necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Association

- Acts responsibly with the Y’s resources, following all budgeting policies and procedures and reporting irregularities immediately.

- State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)
- Blood Borne Pathogen training
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification required within the first 60 days
- First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days
- AED-Oxygen Certification required within the first 60 days
