JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor/Chief Diversity Officer/Title IX Coordinator, this position leads, coordinates and participates in events that promote diversity and inclusion and cultural humility on campus. This position ensures EEO/AA/diversity efforts, investigating complaints; addressing issues related to equity and social justice, the reduction of implicit bias, micro-aggressions, and discrimination; and informing the AVC and others of special issues, emergencies and needs involving students, trainees, staff, and faculty. This position develops internal and external partnerships with faculty, staff, students, and the community and will explore the feasibility of engaging with diversity, social justice, and outreach programs in the community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares OIED reports through the retrieval of information/data from various databases and sources for completion.
- Coordinates special diversity and inclusion events in support of the OIED strategic plan.
- Manages the Social Justice Awards and the selection process for students that include leading various committees across the colleges in addition to the selection committee.
- Develops assessment efforts within the Office of Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity including basic tracking of activities, program evaluation, and measurement of learning outcomes.
- Interprets, analyzes, and advises complaint information by conducting interviews and taking notes in addition to utilizing department and/or University policies, practices, and procedures to answer questions and resolve problems and issues.
- Ensures Title VI compliance through reports submitted to the UT System Administration, serves as a liaison with UT System for adherence to THRC guidelines, and completes Title VI surveys from government agencies require compliance assurance from UTHSC.
- Collaborates with the Associate Vice Chancellor, Sr. Compliance Resolution Officer-Investigations, Associate Resolution Officer, Learning Assurance Officer-ADA, Associate Compliance Generalist, Associate Engagement Generalist, and other Deputy Title IX Coordinators and Investigators for the implementation of collaborative compliance solutions.
- Serves as a Deputy Title IX Investigator in addition to being a Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
- Reviews content for faculty and executive postings with assigned colleges and administrative units and serves as the initial point of contact for respective representatives.
- Charges search committees for executive exempt positions in addition to other positions as requested.
- Executes OIED’s social justice programming initiatives, manages the social justice awards programs, delivers presentations to faculty, staff, residents/fellows, post docs and students, and accesses Blackboard and other platforms to coordinate the delivery of OED trainings, serves on committees (i.e., GME; DIAC; Student Affairs) and leads pre-packaged trainings/workshops/simulations.
- Presents information at new employee orientation and student orientation, and on a regular basis facilitates classes (i.e., pre-packaged; simulations) in the Diversity Certificate Program and requested trainings/workshops.
- Coordinates continuing projects and other departmental projects as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Anthropology, Marketing, Sociology, or Organizational Management. (Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Marketing or Organizational Management, preferred). (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified OR Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Marketing or Organizational Management and one (1) year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified OR Combination of education and work experience to equal 8 years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing along with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports in addition electronic records maintenance skills.
- Database management skills, and skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications, (i.e., IRIS; TALEO; HR Acuity).
- Knowledge of compliance, diversity and inclusion, and human resources concepts, practices, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to use tact, discretion and sound judgment and to work with sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to conduct research, gather information and prepare clear, concise reports and correspondence.
- Ability to show initiative and to demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality and discretion and problem-solving strongly preferred.
- Ability to make policy/procedural decisions and judgments based on learning, reading, interpreting, and applying and explaining rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Ability to read, understand and apply applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, codes and regulations related to assigned activities, including those laws/regulations governing employment practices, benefit administration, and safety and self-insurance programs.
- Learn, read, interpret, and apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials and handle multiple assignments concurrently.
- Knowledge of computerized information systems used in financial and/or accounting applications.
- Ability to be flexible, work independently and have high accountability for a large volume of work.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of office management and general administration.
- Ability to analyze, solve problems and interpret data and make independent decisions.
