Your Role
The Associate Director of M&A Integrations, reports to the Head of Life Science M&A Integrations, and is responsible for managing the end-to-end integration process and activities for select small to mid -size strategic deals within the Life Science Sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serves as the primary point of contact for assigned M&A projects, from deal close to business handover, maintaining ownership and oversight of all integration workstreams.
- Engages during Due Diligence and drives pre-close planning together with Life Science Strategy and Business Development, as well as Merck Group Functions, in particular M&A and M&A Controlling- brings integration focus during DD
- Creates and delivers a structured, disciplined integration strategy, process, project set-up and detailed execution plan, including key milestones and timelines. Adapts and recalibrates plans as the situation evolves.
- Builds trusted partnership and aligns with key stakeholders and business leaders, mobilizing necessary cross-functional team members and providing clear direction and oversight for accountabilities and assignments.
- Responsible for set-up and coordination of workstream meeting schedules, and the creation and deployment of common frameworks to provide optimal mechanism for feedback, inputs, and deliverables within Life Science and across the Merck Group. Ensure workstreams remain focused on value drivers and key enablers.
- Drives and coordinates fast decision making, including the identification and elimination of potential risks; changes course as required to ensure success.
- Ensures people and organizational aspects (culture, org design, retention and engagement, capability identification and preservation) are appropriately considered, integrated, and managed.
- Understands and communicates concerns, motivations and needs of all entities to ensure maximum benefit is realized and business momentum is maintained/increased.
- Monitors and tracks integration progress against agreed-upon milestones and deliverables, to ensure timely realization of deal-specific value and synergies.
- Maintains structured approach for keeping all relevant stakeholders informed, communicating project status, roadblocks, and achievements, including reporting of integration against synergy targets, budgets, and other financial and non-financial metrics to senior leadership and driving timely escalation process where necessary.
- Creates a clear roadmap and transition plan for handover and ongoing ownership within the respective business.
- Operates with clear accountability for integration process, and complimentary to business stakeholders who remain accountable for business case, integration success, and value creation.
- Drives integration manager development, knowledge transfer
- Evolves the best practices and represents LS on Integration Task Force for best-practice exchange
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry or related field OR a Finance Degree with Life Science experience
- At least 5 years' ofexperience as a Project Manager or Consultant
- At least 3years' experience in strategy, business development, portfolio management, investment banking or related field
- At least 8years' of experience in a global, matrixed organization
- Broad-based scientific knowledge in life science, including current and future technologies
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Good balance of strategic and operational strength
- Exceptional project management and organizational skills, with ability to work in an agile manner and change course as required; able to systematically work through ambiguity
- Networked, effective at building credibility, partnering and influence stakeholders, both internal colleagues and external partners
- Strong business acumen, with knowledge of financial analysis and other ROI analysis and key performance indicators
- Thrives in fast paced, complex and high-pressure environment
- Works independently, takes initiatives and makes fact-based decisions
- Culturally and politically savvy
- MBA degree
- Previous experience in integration role
