LOCATION:
Remote (within California), Hybrid or based full-time in an office located in
Sacramento, Fresno, Oakland, Los Angeles, San Diego, or Ontario

SALARY RANGE:
$98,382 - $144,062 annually
We base salary and position offers on experience and an internal equity analysis.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
This position uses best practices in a variety of operational and human resources work. The Assistant Director of HR will collaborate across DRC to foster a safe and nourishing work environment for all employees. They use their systems thinking to identify opportunities to simplify and streamline HR processes for the benefit of all employees including HR and our administrative partners. They are possibility thinkers who are committed to evolving HR to increase our value to employees and the organization while maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Day to day responsibilities include, but are not limited to supervision of selected HR staff, employee relations, performance management, oversight of reasonable accommodations, and ensuring HR operations runs smoothly.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Employee Relations:
Establish mutually respectful and supportive relationships with peers, supervisors, managers, leadership, committees, employee resources groups, other employee communities. Take the lead on employee relations issues. Investigate work-related issues that adversely affect morale, safety, health, performance, teamwork, manager/employee partnerships, and productivity. The HR Manager explains and provides advice to employees and supervisors/managers about organizational culture, policies and procedures, governmental regulations, and compliance (if appropriate).
Reasonable Accommodations
Our philosophy is to provide reasonable accommodations as needed to support employees with disabilities in performing their job. Positively influences the adoption of reasonable accommodations. Is a resource to employees and supervisors to support a positive work environment for all employees including those with disabilities.
Performance Management & Recognition
Provides input and coaching to supervisors and employees on performance management issues. Ensures employees have clear expectations to perform their job and be successful at DRC. Creates job aids and tools to support supervisors and employees in giving and receiving meaningful feedback to each other. Identifies systems with input and collaboration from employees and supervisors to ensure employees receive recognition and appreciation for their strengths, knowledge, team orientation, positive role modeling of our culture & values, leadership, and accomplishments. Ensures employees are provided notice of performance issues with an opportunity to improve. Follows DRC’s progressive discipline process. Partners with HR Director on complex issues.
Other Duties:
  • Develops and trains new supervisors on HR processes and expectations.
  • Oversees HR communications to ensure employees have knowledge of HR products, services, and processes. Seeks and incorporates input from the HR team and others as appropriate.
  • Partners with the HR team to simplify and streamline HR processes.
  • Ensures HR processes are current, documented and clearly communicated.
  • May supervise HR employees and provides general back-up coverage to the HR Director as needed.
  • Prepares compliance reports for HR and oversees input to grant reporting requirements.
  • Oversees HR recordkeeping practices.
  • Oversees workers’ compensation and ensures claims are submitted and managed in a timely manner.
  • Ensures investigations are completed to identify and address unsafe conditions in DRC workplaces.
  • Adapts to meet DRC’s evolving needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field preferably in human resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Minimum of two years supervision experience of at least three employees preferred. Supervision opportunities are available.
  • Eight years of experience handling complex employee relations and managing employee performance management.
  • Ten years HR generalist experience with increasingly challenging and complex responsibilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Compensation analysis including market and equity assessments.
  • SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SPHR credential preferred.
  • Experience working with and/or sensitivity to persons with disabilities and/or experience working with and/or sensitivity to persons from multi-ethnic communities.
  • Life experience as a person with a disability OR direct experience as a caregiver of a family member with a disability.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to travel a minimum of four times per year to the Sacramento office. Additional travel to DRC locations as needed for investigations.
High speed internet connection is required to work for us.
