We are recruiting a highly energetic associate to join our team to support ICMA's mission through grant and contract funding from federal agencies, foundations, and other sponsors and supporters. This position will work across various teams that often partner with funders, including ICMA's international and domestic technical assistance activities, research, and the emerging "local government reimagined" initiative. The new associate will report to the Managing Director, Research, Development, and Technical Assistance and/or the Senior Manager of Business Development. The associate plays a critical role in helping ICMA identify and capture new grants, cooperative agreements, subawards, contracts, and sponsorship dollars.
ICMA has adopted a virtual-first workforce with all staff currently remote. The position is based out of ICMA's headquarters, located in Washington, D.C. The selected individual must be able to work the core business hours from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm EST. Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
What you will do
- Regularly track, document, and communicate business development opportunities.
- Support the identification and cultivation of relationships with potential partner organizations and key ICMA staff.
- Conduct technical, subject matter, and other research and analysis to assist the preparation of competitive proposals.
- Process expense reports, invoices, consulting agreements, and purchase orders, and provide other administrative and logistical support as needed.
- Coordinate proposal development meetings and processes and support the final packaging of proposals.
- Support the content and programmatic needs of other business lines and content areas, including existing funded technical assistance programs, research, "local government reimagined," and ICMA's e-bookstore.
What you need to be successful in this role
- Bachelor's Degree in International Development, International Relations/Affairs, Public Administration, English, Communications, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
- Interest in business development activities including networking with colleagues inside ICMA and with those from partnering organizations; researching funders; creating innovative innovative approaches for programs; and building a solid financial plan for envisioned activities.
- Passion for local governance and the mission of creating more livable, resilient, and equitable communities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Experience and administrative skills in project management, budgeting, financial management.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office, and comfort using common virtual collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and/or project management platforms.
- Knowledge of business development and proposal processes.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
