The Associate Accountant will work with our administration, fiscal, and operations teams to provide intermediate level accounting, technical accounting support, and administrative functions for our department. This work will include maintaining timely and accurate financial reporting with moderate professional difficulty.
Schedule: Hybrid, at least 3 days a week in office (may be subject to change by Mayor’s Directive).
The responsibilities of the Accounts Receivable Associate Accountant:
· Prepare customer statements, bills, and invoices
· Reconcile expenses to the general ledger, calculate and post receipts to appropriate general ledger accounts and verify details of the transactions, such as funds received and total account balances
· Work with stakeholders both internal and external to the City by replying to inquiries and when necessary, providing increasing more complete information and assistance regarding accounting information and transactions, and work with various groups to resolve issues
· Prepare monthly receivable statements, compile and sort documents, prepare and post invoices and accounting adjustments
· Manage overdue accounts with an outside collection agency and facilitate the committee that manages fee adjustments for properties that request a modification to their assessed fees
· Be a liaison for the Administrative Hearings process and assist with conducting special projects regarding financial transactions by researching and analyzing accounting issues, performing financial transactions, and creating reports by compiling supporting documents for management review
· Monitor and analyze financial information, performance metrics, and other reports within functional areas of the Community Planning and Development Department
· Provide backup to other areas in the accounting group and performs other general administrative duties
· May be required to respond to internal and external audit requests for information, including providing verbal and written information to document financial and budget transactions and producing accurate auditable data using established procedures and manuals
· Ensure compliance and maintenance of fiscal accountability in relation to rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles

- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- Experience: One (1) year of professional level accounting experience reconciling accounting discrepancies, analyzing expenditures, and preparing financial reports
- Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements
