ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Sales Manager, Assistant Sales Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations and sales activities in the area(s) assigned. Duties include hiring and training staff, generating and following up with sales leads, meeting sales quotas and ensuring customer satisfaction with services. This position is required to work some weekends, evenings, and holidays.

The Foundation also contributes operating support to nearly 1,100 Foundation and scholarship programs every year, including Bronco Athletics and the Norman J. Priest Scholarship. In addition, the Foundation administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications. The Foundation contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
- Coordinate all sales activities related to the area(s) assigned, an ambassador of hospitality and customer service
- Directly oversees a variety of events that include; catering, weddings, business and private
- Recommends, participates, and evaluates the ROI in industry conferences and shows
- Interacts directly with customers and vendors to resolve issues and complaints in a timely manner
- Acts as Manager On Duty (MOD) and is responsible for operations in the absence of supervisors
- Send prospecting emails, cold calls and developing relationships for weddings and/or events
- Respond to wedding and/or event inquiries in a timely manner, customer service from start to finish
- Responsible for the financial performance of the area(s) assigned
- Responsible for ensuring staffing levels are appropriate for forecast demand within budget.
- Responsible for the effective training and coaching of crew members
- Inspires a “team atmosphere” while working collaboratively with all sales and event staff
- Ensures assigned area is ready for service, and maintained at the highest quality throughout service
- Resolves equipment, maintenance, and facility issues quickly and effectively
- Work closely with the sales manager and other hotel management to establish a department goals and budgets
- Responsible for submitting a variety of reports in an accurate, timely manner
- Effectively utilizes catering, financial, timekeeping, and other computerized systems
- Ensures continued adherence to all Foundation standards and procedures
- Required to communicate with co-workers, vendors, and other departments with professionalism and respect.
- Maintains positive behaviors and actions and provides the highest quality of service to customers at all times.
- Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner
- Ability to adhere to a flexible work schedule to maintain a high level of customer visibility and service (will require weekends)
- Ensures compliance with established laws and regulations within their assigned area
- Supervision: Responsible for the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of students and staff necessary to carry out effective operations of area assigned. Ensure staffing levels are appropriate, within budget and staff is ready for work productively.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 5 years of experience working in weddings and/or events
- Ability to effectively utilize catering, financial, timekeeping, and other computerized systems
- Ability to develop, interpret and apply policies and procedures to variety of situations
- Ability to be resourceful and to take initiative.
- Fiscal responsibility to assure financial success with all events
- Ability to work cooperatively in a diverse environment
- Flexibility and open to new ideas and adaptable to changing technology
- Ability to consistently achieve targets assigned while continuously driving sales effectively
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service and communication skills
- Strong analytical skills to identify trends and sales patterns
- Valid CA driver’s license and insurance
- Ability to work a flexible, changing, and demanding work schedule, to include weekends.
