JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for all day-to-day departmental operations to ensure customer requirements are met. Manage team and resources to meet daily productivity, quality and safety objectives.
PRINCIPAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
DEPARTMENTAL MANAGEMENT 80%
- Plan and schedule the efficient use of team, resources, and equipment to accomplish the daily requirements of the shift.
- Supervise the output of the department to ensure customer requirements are met.
- Ensure department is adhering to all procedures and departmental processes are followed.
- Recommend changes to processes as they occur and suggest improvements.
- Communicate problems / issues to Manager that may effect departments ability to meet both internal and external customer requirements.
- Recommend improvements to department processes and operations.
- Conduct daily start up meeting with departmental team in absence of Manager.
- Participate in daily planning meetings.
- Provide information such as progress towards goals, problems, issues, recognition.
- Ensure daily housekeeping is maintained in a safe and efficient manner.
STAFFING/ ASSOCIATE MANAGEMENT 15%
- Regularly monitor and provide constructive feedback to enable proper associate performance.
- Assist with training for newly hired associates.
- Recommend disciplinary action and associate recognition as necessary.
- Promote a positive work environment to achieve the highest level of quality and productivity.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES 5%
- Isolate and define work processes within the PDC to better service the overall organization. Assist other departments with staffing or expertise to meet customer requirements.
- Other duties assigned by management.
EDUCATIONAL and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS / SKILLS and ABILITIES
- Minimum HS diploma or GED; Associates Degree in business or logistics preferred; Bachelors Degree is desirable; will consider a combination of education and applicable work experience in transportation and warehousing.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of packaging materials, equipment and processes.
- Understanding of supply chain activities including transportation, warehousing, distribution and systems.
- Must be able to read, write, comprehend, communicate written or verbal instructions, policies and procedures.
- Open minded person with the ability to adjust to a rapidly changing work environment.
- Self motivated, forward thinking problem solver with a positive approach to challenges.
- Exhibits successful leadership through personal integrity, exemplary work ethics, and professional demeanor.
- Professional and personable working relationship with internal and external customers;
- Dependable, reliable, and an able to work independently or as directed.
- Background in Kaizen, and CTPat a plus.
- Proven leadership skills that motivate, generate pride and enhance respect for others
- Working knowledge of computers and related software programs. Experience with all Microsoft Office, Access, and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) including SAP and Infor is a plus.
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work environment is characteristic of the average business office or the average warehouse/distribution facility for operations personnel. Noise level is usually low to moderate. If travel is required, the associate will experience the weather conditions at that time. Refer to the chart under "Physical Requirements" for some specific physical abilities. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with a disability to be able to perform the essential functions of this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee must be able to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer. Requires occasional lifting of average objects (up to 50 lbs.) and rare lifting of heavy (over 50 lbs.). Position will be exposed to a warehouse environment involving dust, heat, cold, and noise. Involves high amounts of walking, sitting, standing, reaching, manual dexterity and use of hands; occasional periods of pushing, pulling, stooping, and kneeling; rare periods of climbing.
